Subject: streak comes to an end!

I am not sure exactly the nite it started but I am sure it was mid to late October and ended tonite. Treed a coon everynite we cut a dog loose. We saw a lot of good dog work this winter. Treed 1 cat caught 1 skunk and I believe treed 3 possums as far as off game goes. Not any fast game and I will probably pay for that statement tommorrow nite! I tell the young guys that with out a bad nite you can't appreciate the good ones. Well tonite was one of those crazy ones. Dogs hit and swung to the right. It was a slow going track. The tapped a couple trees. They were heading toward a group of homes and a country road so we decided to try to catch them. About 15 yards from the road and 70 yards from the nearest house they treed. Not wanting to cause any disturbance we got to the dogs quick as possible. We had 4 dogs treed and a couple house dogs helping. My buddy came and we gathered up the dogs to head out. All the time our lights are blaring. As we get to the road we hear the fella in the house yelling for his dog we believe. Joy I believe he was calling. We shined back toward him hoping he realized we were coon hunting. This area gets hunted pretty regular. We walked to the pasture and headed back to the big woods. Suddenly at the house we hear a motor race, gravel fly and rubber squeal. Up the road they come. They fly across the ditch slinging mud all the way through the woods. I figure maybe he is angry at his dog that is still barking and is trying to catch it. We are 200 yards away and I decide this is probably not a rational guy so off with the lights. Alcohol makes some folks difficult to deal with and I ain't willing to risk it. We Decide to relocate and go to the truck. It is only 8:30 so lets make another drop.We are way back a lane off the road. Same guys owns everything around us and I have hunted with Permission for years on him. As we get to the road a truck is waiting on us. No dodging him now. I unbuckle my seat belt so the guy won't strangle me dragging me out the window.I roll down my window and ask if he needs a hand with something. He proceeds to tell me some one was sneaking around behind his house trying to rob him. I asked where he lived. Yep right where we just treed. Mr we were coon hunting and treed right next to your place. We were the ones with 40 volts of lights blaring. I figure most people will realize if my light is blaring I am not trying to sneak around but some folks! He jumps out of the truck and here he comes. I just know I am going to be sore as heck in the morning. I am too old for this stuff. Before he reachs my truck I think I finally got him to realize we were "COON HUNTERS" not thieves. Why heck, he use to coon hunt too. Everything is fine now. After introductions and a story or two from him we are ready to try 1 more drop. We go about 3/4 mile down the road turn in on a ditch and the dogs strike. Sounds pretty good. They are leaving the ditch and heading to the right.. Right toward the home where our new friend lives. Head them dogs off, don't want to visit with him again tonite. We caught them a ways from his home and decided to call it an evening. Shew! what a way to end a streak. Doubt I ever have one like it again. Never know? Hope to start a new one tommorrow nite.
