"you'll have to work on breeding out the wierdness and such to compete" Can you explain this a little better, just curious.

"I think alot of the old timers are pissed cuz their seceret little fraternity got opened up to the world" When you make statements like this it really shows you don't have a clue.

One of the things I will be interested in watching is how are they going to detect mixed breed dogs from being registered as Leopard Hounds? If you cross something with one of the other coonhound breeds it is usually fairly apparent. Leopards come in all sizes and shapes and may throw out recessive traits. I think without DNA testing folks won't know what they are buying. Could that happen now, probably does, but I'm afraid we're about to see it on a much larger scale. These dogs will be the rage for a while. Everybody wants to try a Leopard out, and there will be plenty of unscrupulous folks out there trying to keep up with the demand. Granted, eventually the bad breeders will be signaled out, but not before we have a bunch of crap out there registered as UKC American Leopard Hounds.

My statements above about UKC Leopard Hound Breeders was all emcompassing, and that was wrong. I know there are plenty of Leopard Hound Breeders who just want the opportunity to compete against the best hounds and show just how good these Leopards really are. They are not the ones I worry about. They always have and do have the breeds best interest. But there are a BUNCH of folks that worry me and I only hope the Leopard breed does not suffer for it. I also can't see why UKC couldn't have made some minor concessions and just allowed an amendment to their rules that allowed ALCBA registered dogs to compete. If a name change was all that was needed to make this legit, why couldn't a amendment to allow Leopard Curs to compete been just as acceptable?

Bottom line, good luck to you guys who will be competing, I hope you do as well as I suspect you will while still maintaining the high standards for our beloved breed. And I sincerely mean that! Also, down the road if I'm wrong about some of my fears I will be plenty man enough to admit I'm wrong, I actually hope I am wrong.
