A friend of mine put his Garmin Astro on my dog over the weekend. I thought it was very useful. Not without flaws though. For more than an hour the collar did not record anything. Also when he tried to get the collar and reciever working together they wouldn't read. It was a clear night in a bean field. When it did work it was fun. Roxy had gone in a corn field and it told un exactly how far away she was, exactly wich direction fron us and how fast she was moving. She ended up treeing on the other side of the cornfield 190 yards out and we were able to shine the coon at 170 yards. She travled a little more than 5 miles. It fun information, but I don't really think it would be relevent in my hunting area to retrieve a dog. The radio tracker works just fine for that.
