Thanks for responding Mike. The black is most likely not comming from Leopard influences. This is not the case "when you breed black saddle/brindle trim dogs together, you may get an all black dog" (Randy Oller). While I have not had this type of black phase dog come out of my kennel, I completely understand what Randy is trying to say. This is most easily seen in the plott breed. This black color phase seems to be comming from Jug. It is commonly known that Jug is not a pure leopard, hence his single registration. I have not been around the breed during the time period after a major singley registered dog has started to show it's influence. I would imagine that in the past there were other traits that have come out of single registration that were delt with one way or the other. I would assume that this is done on a case by case basis upon the time of registration, by the registration office. I'm sure this will be the case here also. I am trying to determine the general opinion of the membership while at the same time, trying to determine the genetic story and future influence of this trait before it comes up for major discussion as I am sure that it will. I want to have the facts ready. I will have a solid opinion on the matter in short order. If I were asked to cast a vote at this very moment I would be in favor of registering the black dogs but I'm glad to have some time to develope my opinion further and also to hear all of yours. Dan McD.
