Sulky Depeche Mode fans finally have something to smile about — the seminal synth-pop trio are launching a North American tour beginning June 15.

The band — singer Dave Gahan and keyboardists Andrew Fletcher and Martin Gore — will embark on its first road trip in more than three years to support May's Exciter (see "Depeche Mode Post Clips From Exciter Online"), kicking things off in Montreal and winding through the United States before wrapping up August 14 in Los Angeles.

Produced by Mark Bell, best known for his work on Björk's Homogenic (1997) and Selmasongs (2000), Exciter is the band's first studio album since 1997's Ultra. "Dream On," the first single from the band's 11th full-length album, is expected to surface at radio in April.

"It still has darkness," Gore said in a statement, "but I find it more uplifting."

Gahan, meanwhile, said he thinks fans of the band's previous work will feel at home with the new material. "[The tracks] could have been songs from various different years of Depeche Mode," he explained in a statement. "It's almost like a greatest hits of songs that haven't been released yet. I'm not saying they're all going to be very big hits or anything like that. I just feel it is very strong in that way."-----Joe D'Angelo
