Mariel Rodriguez goes mainstream with new shows

International star and Backroom, Inc.¡¯s newest talent, Mariel Rodriguez joins local showbusiness. The 20-year-old looker was cast in "Rouge," an action-packed TV series shown all over Asia via MTV and is now part of GMA¡¯s "Extra Challenge" and "Love to Love" as well as "MTV Philippines" as an MTV VJ.


Mariel has already done a number of commercials, including Clean and Clear, Pizza Hut and Talk N¡¯ Text. Her last commercial was as the female lead to Lucky Manzano in the Close-up Eucalyptus TV Commercial. A few months later after the Close-up commercial, she sent her photos via e-mail to the producers of "Rouge." She then did a web cam audition. So enamored they were with her beauty and talent that she was sent to Singapore to personally audition and was cast immediately in "Rouge" as Pam, a "walking encyclopedia." "Rouge" airs every Thurday, 7 p.m. on MTV Philippines.

Mariel recently flew back to Manila to pursue an active showbiz career in the Philippines. "I want to try out showbizness in our country," shared Mariel upon arriving in the country. "I love acting, dancing and hosting and I hope I can use the lessons I have learned here in Singapore in the Philippines."

And local showbizness has welcomed Mariel with open arms. Besides seeing her in "Rouge" (via MTV Philippines), she now joins the no. 1 reality based program "Extra Challenge" with Paolo Bediones and Ethel Booba. "The Title says it all... Extra Challenge and it¡¯s extra challenging to do the show," says Mariel. "But I¡¯m loving every minute of it! I¡¯m so happy to be part of this top-rating and award-winning show."

Meanwhile, Mariel was also cast in the new season of "Love to Love." She plays the best friend of Sunshine Dizon and is paired with "30 Days" winner Dino Guevarra. "Besides hosting, I also love acting and doing "Love to Love" is very exciting," Mariel shares.

Mariel also joins the prestigious roster of MTV VJ¡¯s. "I never expected to become a VJ for MTV," says Mariel. "I¡¯ve always been watching MTV since before and I¡¯ve always looked up to the VJ¡¯s because they¡¯re the opitome of cool and youthful wholesomeness. And now, joining MTV VJ¡¯s KC Montero, Sarah Meier, KC Concepcion, Mark Abaya and Cindy Kurleto is a dream come true for me!" Mariel will start taping for the leading music channel soon and will be seen in the various shows on MTV.

"Everything¡¯s so fast that I can¡¯t believe this is all happening to me," says Mariel, who besides pursuing an active career in showbizness is currently enrolled as a sophomore at the De La Salle University. "But I couldn¡¯t be happier. In every endeavor I do, I promise myself to do my best. And that¡¯s what I plan to do in showbizness. Everytime I¡¯m given a job whether as host or actress, I give my everything to get the job done."
