Thursday's KC Star has a special section on severe weather, showing a picture of an approaching tornado on the front.

Turn inside to the 2nd page, look at the top left corner, and read about the Tonganoxie Split. This term is attributed to Dan Henry, a retired weatherman from Channel 4 you may remember from 10 years ago. His picture is at the end of the article, doing what all good weathermen ought to do occasionally -- holding out his hand to see if it is raining!

I bring this up because Dan Henry is the elder statesman of the Kansas City Heart of America Barbershop Chorus, having been a member for over 50 years. As we so often like to tell him (and he doesn't quibble), he's older than dirt! If you were at the spring show, Dan is the lead singer for the Tone-Henge quartet that presented a knee-slapping comedy routine as part of the show.

I have to wonder about the Tonganoxie Split, though. Last year, Tonganoxie caught a tornado, and I don't recall anyone talking about a split at that time. I suppose if there is something to it, and the storm is diverted south, then it's look out Olathe!

I wonder if Gary Lezak likes to sing ...
