For me, the biggest kick was being with the Gas House Gang, people I knew from my singing days in St. Louis, and probably the best barbershop quartet active today. Also, the bass from 12th Street Rag is a man from St. Louis I knew.

That is what is great about this hobby. You make friends all over through this common love of singing. The Kansas City chapter and the chapter I left behind in St. Louis are arch-rivals in the annual contests we have, but individuals in these chapters know each other as friends. I enjoy the special distinction of having sung with both groups and having friends in each.

Our shows are few, so I encourage you to come hear us when you have the chance. Next year at this time, our featured quartet is "Platinum", which is the current champion, having earned the crown last summer at Kemper Arena. Prior to that, we have two dates: August in the park near downtown Overland Park, and December for our Christmas show at RLDS Auditorium in Independence.

I'll provide more specific details later, when I know it myself!

In the meantime, any man who loves to sing is welcome to drop in on one of our regular practices. We practice every Tuesday night, starting at 7 PM, at St. Peters United Church of Christ, 110th and Holmes (1 mile south of I-435), in south KC, MO. I'll be the guy selling tickets for our weekly drawing for our charity.
