Looking For my Harris Family -- Kathleen Harris, 14:04:27 06/15/08 Sun

I would really appreciate any help that anyone could give me regarding finding members, genealogy, and answers to my questions of my Harris side. My Great Grandfather was James Wesley Harris who married an Elizabeth Cooke/Cooksey and lived in the Humboldt area of California. She passed in 1897 I believe and then he married a Native American Woman by the name of Mollie. I would love to know what her maiden name was, where she was buried etc. James had my Grandfather (Benjamin Franklin Harris). Some of James other children by Elizabeth married into the Bagley Brown and Wilson families. I believe Mollie moved on with a daughter after the death of James in 1915 in Eureka. I believe she is in Siskiyou county in the 1920 Census. I can give more info as much as I have, but at this time if anyone could please help if you know of this family I would love to find out any info I can on my Family and where Mollie is buried and what her Indian name was. I was told by my Grandfather that I had an Native American Aunt that had Three tatoos on her chin. The other ladies names would have been Ellen Harris and Lizzie Harris Married to James Son Hiram Harris and had a Son by the name of Samuel. Thankyou sooooo much for any and all help!!Kathleen Harris Beaverton Oregon khkmhkh@hotmail.com

I went to high school with Bob Cooke and he was killed some time during the Viet Nam War period. I don't believe it was in action.

Winkle/Hall -- Dusti Lancaster, 13:55:05 02/01/05 Tue

I'm looking for information on Daniel Boone Winkle and Mary Jane (Hall) Winkle. They are my Great Great Grandparents and I'm having difficulty finding any information on them. I know they were married in Empire City, Coos County Oregon and they lived on the Smith River in the 1880's and moved to Siskiyou/Klamath County. From there I don't have much information. They had many children, all boys! My Great Grandfather was Dan H. Winkle and he was born at Ft. Klamath and later in life moved to Crook County and Deschutes County Oregon. If anyone has any information I would love to hear about it and share what I have.
Thank you.

Daniel Boone Winkle was the son of Edward Winkle and second wife Susanna (have last name). Edward was born in Tennessee in about 1814, and his parents were born in Georgia, but I have no data on them. It is likely that they were German Immigrants whose orginal name was Winkler or Van Winkle. Edward and family moved around. I found them in Louisa County Iowa (1838 census), Lafayette, Livingston County Missouri (1840 census), Hamilton, Decateur Iowa (1850 census). The family arrived in Oregon about 1854, in a wagon train. They appear in the Benton County, Oregon census for Jackson County, Oregon. Daniel is listed as being 14 years old. If you do a search on "Edward Winkle: Alsea, and Oregon, you will find an interesting anecdote on one of Edward's adventures.

Hello Janet
We have been to the only cemetery we could find for Dunsmuir and have indexed it. We have a "sort" of list from city hall and it is barely readable, but is the only copy they have. It could be that both may be buried there but with no headstone. I will check on my written copy to see if either are listed.

MOLLIE HARRIS -- Kathleen M. Harris, 09:55:32 10/22/03 Wed

HELP! I have been searching to find where a MOLLIE HARRIS is burried. She was the second wife to my Great Grandfather James Wesley Harris whos first wife was Elizabeth. She was A Native American Shastan supposedly born at Hat Creek according to the 1930 Census. ( approx. date of birth was 1867 )She also had at least one child by the name of Edna who was 15, in the 1920 census but not with her in the 1930 census. She had Been with my Grandfather in the Eureka, Humboldt co. area until 1917 when he died and then she went back to Siskiyou co. So I don't think they were burried together. His youngest son Benjamin Franklin harris who was born in Arcata / mckinnleyville area, is my Grandfather. Other then the census I don't know anything about her or where Edna and she are burried. Any and all info is greatly appreciated and thanking any and all of you in advance!!!! Sincerely Kathleen M. Harris (Oregon)

Dunsmuir Cemetary -- Tim Graham, 14:20:44 10/23/03 Thu

I've been told for years that my G-G-Grandparents were buried in Dunsmuir California but they're not listed. Is this a complete listing? Are there other cemetaries in Dunsmuir?

Little Shasta Cemetery -- Donna Bergman, 16:56:11 09/14/03 Sun

Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful
That is how I would describe your website. I think there is a special place in heaven for all of you folks. I have found so-o-o-o much information on your site.
Now for the really exciting part- I think my Sarah Louk Green (born 1859 in Oregon) might be buried in the Little Shasta Cemetery!!!!! Her husband's name was Eldorado Camp Green. Who would I contact to read the inscription, secure cemetery or burial record, obituary and so on, so I can send for her death certificate----- if it is her? If you offer these services, please let me know so I can do the request properly and with the desired fees. In the 1910 Census she and her family were in the Greenview Township. In the 1880 Census they are enumerated in Scotts Valley.
Her children were -----
Richard Camp Green
Ellen Elizabeth (Green) Furman
Alice Neal (Green) Thurber Wilson
Robert D Green
Oliver E Green
Hazel R Green
Elaine S Green
Five other children were born to her and died as infants or small children.
I have lots of questions- I hope you have some answers!
Thank you again for the wonderful website!
Sincerely Donna Bergman

PS. Charles Fredrick Louk- Sarah's nephew- is buried in the Picard Cemetery. He was a WWI Veteran. There is no marker, as the mortuary took the money from the military for his military marker and then kept the money and did not place a marker. He did have a military funeral. He died 12/28/1947 and was buried 1/3/1948 if you want to add him to the Picard list

Burial Place -- Kathy Baker, 06:16:40 06/17/03 Tue

I am interested in Siskiyou County because an ancestor lived (in 1870s) in Sawyer's Bar. During this past May we drove six hours in a round trip from Yreka along the narrow winding road to Sawyer's Bar. It was just beautiful, hardly passed a car or saw anyone and made it to Sawyer's Bar. Took photos of the old Town Hall, Post Office (if you should like photos of them for your site). I'm looking for the burial place of this man Casper/Kasper Daub. His name is found in the Great Registers for Voting for CA but I've never found his burial place. Around 1872 or so he lived in Sawyer's Bar, prior to that in Trinity County, after the early 1870s he lived in Cecilville. Another researcher (friend of mine) went a few years ago to Cecilville but we have not been able to find Casper's burial place. Wondering how many cemeteries there are in those areas which still need transcribed. Are there records also for the old Catholic Church in Sawyer's Bar? Thanks. Hope to keep coming to your site to see new information.

Kathy: I'm sure you've already checked to see where he was in the 1880 census. If not, you might do so - that would give you an idea where he was in that year, anyway. I'm going to check with someone in Etna who might know about the Sawyers Bar Cath. church records. Joanne
