Subject: Sexual (or general) harassment policy for Residents

Does anyone have a sexual harassment policy for residents? I see we are in need of one at Burlington Tower. At the Florida Association of Homes for the Aging convention last week, an employment law attorney suggested a policy that covers harassment based on all protected categories (sex, race, religion, color, national origin, handicap and familial status). Because a couple of my residents have said inappropriate things to visiting care workers in the common areas, I feel we need a policy ASAP, that covers all these categories, and probably sexual orientation and definitely marital status (which is protected under Florida law).

I am working on getting another training session for residents AND employees on sexual harassment as quickly possible, but I think that if we are having this problem in our building, others are having it, or will have it, and I'm sure none of us want to have THAT kind of environment.

Ironically, even though the available services for the elderly are abundant in our area, no one seems to do sexual harassment training for seniors. I do have a semi commitment from the City of St. Petersburg Department of Community Affairs.

Any help with a policy will be GREATLY appreciated. Our residents NEVER cease to amaze us, do they?

Have a wonderful day,
Ken
