My cable company here in Warsaw has the same level of ignorance as the BBC. I wrote:

Dear Astercity

Some time ago I wrote to you asking about the possibility of your company offering more English language channels.

Since then the BBC has started broadcasting its channels FTA on the Astra 2d satellite. Would there be any possibility of you offering these channels as
part of your cable TV service? Recently a number of cable TV companies in other parts of Europe have started offering BBC1,2,3 and 4 as part of their
packages by merely re-broadcasting the signal. An example can be found here:

http://www.kabelsignal.at/tvpro.html

I work as an English language teacher at a university here in Warsaw, and the level of interest among students, many of whom subscribe to your service is high. I am sure that as your rivals Chello and Cyfra+ already offer BBC
Prime, your company needs to compete in this area.

I look forward to your reply.

Regards

They replied:

Dear Sir,

We would like to inform you that in accordance with the new law concerning
copy rights, Aster City cable Sp. z o.o. have to set agreements with all
despatchers of TV Programms. We have not set an agreement with BBC Prime
yet. This is the reason ACC can not provide BBC Prime at the moment.
We regret to inform you that due to above conditions it will not be possible
to watch this channel in the nearest future.

Thank you very much for your valuable comments and suggestions. They are
always taken into account, with the aim to adjust our offer according to our
customers' preferences.

Regards
