It's also a waste of taxpayers money (which Thatcher refused to cough up for BBC World Service TV). You can pick up Astra 2D as far east as Cyprus, so who needs BFBS TV unless you're in Iraq or the Falklands? And why are HM Forces more deserving of their own radio and TV than other Brtish expats? We've made do without in the past.

BFBS TV is off-limits to civvies in Gibraltar, but with the real UK channels, who needs it? GBC (the least watched channel on the Rock, and probably the world) used to carry BBC Prime, but droped it after BBC1 and 2 became available

The problem with BBC Prime, BBC America, etc is that they apologise for being British! If you watch Brazilian TV on satellite in Asia (yes, you can!) they make no bones about the fact that it's aimed at Portuguese speakers in general and Brazilians in particular
