CHAPTER 14 –

From a distance, the beach house seemed almost asleep. Only one small light had been turned on in what appeared to be the living room, but apart from that, everything was dark. It was rather late during the night and not a sound could be heard.

Not too far from the house was a black, parked car, facing the house in the darkness. Inside, a man sat patiently taking out his cell phone and dialled a number, never leaving the house out of his sight. He brought the phone to his ear and waited for a few seconds, in silence.

“Yes, it’s me.” The man spoke in a low, cynical voice. “We got them. The woman led us straight to them. They’re at the beach house.” He added. He waited and listened for a while and then nodded to himself. “Yes. Right. Yeah, I’m ready.” He said, just before hanging up.

He turned off his cell phone and glanced to his right, where another man was sitting. He nodded softly, giving him the okay, and took out his gun from his jacket.

--

The waves tempted the shore by brushing it ever so gracefully under the starlight. The air was warm and humid, but a soft breeze kept it comfortable.

Nearby, a little further on the beach, enjoying a different level of comfort was Robin and Jason. Robin could feel Jason’s sleeping breath on the back of her neck as his arms stayed wrapped around her. She closed her eyes, feeling the peacefulness and perfect ness of the moment for an instant and then reopened them slowly. She stirred a bit and carefully turned around in Jason’s arms, now resting on her left side, facing him.

She rested her head beside Jason’s and simply watched him. She remembered how much she loved to do that – just watch him sleep. He looked so peaceful and vulnerable when he was sleeping. She always found comfort in his slow breathing and his warm embrace. It did not take long for her to remember how much she loved waking up in his arms and just look at him while he was still sleeping.

She smiles to herself, momentarily, and then carefully lifts herself up in a seated position and grabs her clothes. She puts them on, careful as to not wake Jason. She straightens her t-shirt in the moonlight and then stops herself. Her eyes turn back to Jason. It’s like her heart stops beating for a second as she bends down and kneels beside him on the small blanket. Jason always felt weird when she said he was beautiful. Men aren’t considered beautiful, he thought. But now, as she watched him sleep, she knew she was right. He was one of the most beautiful people she’d ever met. She knew it.

She ran a hand through her hair and tilted her head as she watched him still. She took a deep breath as her mind went back to what had just happened between them.

**flashback**

“Wait…” Robin then spoke, out of breath, as she pulled away reluctantly. “Wait…we need to…” she started and then stumbled. “I can’t not think.” She whispered.

“Robin…” Jason whispered back as his voice filled with love. “We don’t have to do this if you don’t want to…”

“I do.” Robin insisted. “I want to….” She whispered as she leaned her forehead against his and closed her eyes. “I just… Jason…”

She didn’t have to say it, Jason knew what was worrying her.

“We don’t have to go all the way.” He said, reassuring her. Robin opened her eyes as he kept whispering to her. “I just want to hold you…feel you…” he whispered, softly as she cupped his face with both of her hands.

Robin stopped him by kissing him slowly. There was no need to talk any more. The silent conversation the occurred between kisses was enough to reassure both of them of what they were about to do. Jason didn’t hesitate to kiss her back with all his heart and soul.

-

She had never felt as whole and as alive as she did in Jason’s arms, but for some reason she couldn’t help the sad feeling that enveloped her at the moment. She couldn’t tear her eyes away from him. A strange feeling overcame her, as if she should cherish this moment for it would be the last. She tried to shake this feeling as she softly caressed Jason’s face, careful as to not wake him up.

**flashback** Montauk
R: Yea, I love kissing you.
J: Yea but, my desire doesn't stop there Robin. I want to have sex with you. Or sleep with you or whatever. I mean I know we can't because of Stone and everything. He's still in your heart.
R: That's what I thought, that night. But you have your own place in my heart, and it's not second...it's separate. Apart from anything I felt for him. I want to make love to you Jason.
J: But?
R: If I hurt you...
J: You won't.
R: You don't know that. I mean you know all the risks, you can use every condom and spermicide known to man. We could be so careful that we give new meaning to the word. But if I looked up at you, you're so beautiful and healthy. I f I thought for one second that I could give this to you. I'd freeze up I know it. I can't, oh...
J: (taking her hands) It's okay. Take it easy, I understand. Better than I did. It's a million times worse to watch someone you hurt that it is to hurt yourself. So of course you're more scared of me getting HIV than I am. And since...sex is supposed to feel good, and all it would make you feel with me is rotten...then I guess we'll never do it.
R: Can I tell you how much I just hated hearing that?
J: Not as much as I hated saying it.
R: Why?
J: What do you mean why? Because you are so beautiful and you feel so good. I just want to touch you, and hold you.
R: Would you? I mean we can do that...just that.
J: Alright, let me get this straight. You want me to touch you? (She nods, he touches her neck) What, like that?
R: (smiles) That's alright.
J: (he kisses her) How bout that?
R: That's nice too.
J: (smiles) Good, cause I could kiss you all night long.

Park

Robin: Jason…(Smiles) someday, we can make love like other people…

Jason (smiles): Yeah, well…they need that to make them special.

Robin laughs.

Jason (Laughs too): I mean, I don’t mind if it’s that.

They hug each other and just sit there, holding each other in the park.

--

Robin takes a deep breath and rests her hand on Jason’s cheek.

“You are special…” she whispers with all the love she can hold.

She slowly bends down and kisses his cheek softly. She reluctantly gets up and walks away into the night.

--

Sonny walks into the living room only to find Anna staring out the window. When she hears footsteps, she immediately turns around. She relaxes at the sight of Sonny.

“Sorry,” Sonny said in a soft voice. “I didn’t mean to frighten you.”

“It’s okay. I’m just a little…jumpy right now.” She answered walking towards the middle of the room.

“It’s understandable.” Sonny reassuringly spoke, avoiding her eyes.

“Where’s Jason?” Anna asked after a short silence.

“He probably went to check on Robin.” Sonny spoke as Anna stayed silent and turned away from him. “You’re worried about her.” He acknowledged.

“Aren’t you?” Anna replied immediately.

Sonny paused for a minute as a sad, regretful expression came over his face.

“Robin’s a strong, brave woman…” he started, pondering his words carefully.

“That’s not an answer.” Anna quickly said, interrupting him.

Sonny looked at her reluctantly at first and then took a deep breath.

“Yes I am.” He admitted. “But she doesn’t care.” Sonny added in a soft, low voice. “She always hates when people worry about her.”

“I know…” Anna whispered, almost to herself.

“Besides, she’s worried about you.” Sonny said.

Anna stayed silent for a while, thinking about the danger and the threat that her being here posed to Robin. She hated herself for putting her daughter in danger again, and somehow she couldn’t help the horrible feeling she felt tonight. She felt bad about involving Sonny and Jason too. Somehow, she felt like something was wrong. Something was definitely not right…

“Does she have reasons to?” She asked Sonny as she turned around to face him.

The intense look in her eyes almost disarmed Sonny for a split-second. Not something that happened too often. When Sonny didn’t answer, Anna simply repeated her inquiry.

“Does she have reasons to worry?” she asked again. “Are we safe here, or are we not?”

“Nothing’s going to happen to Robin…or you…” he answered, trying to avoid her questions.

“Don’t do that.” She said through her teeth, all the while trying to keep a calm tone. “Don’t do that. Don’t avoid answering.”

“I promised I’d keep you safe and I will.” He said in his usual, powerful voice.

Anna turned her back to him and stared out the window. She stayed silent and kept to herself for a while and then turned back to face Sonny.

“I don’t want you to keep me safe,” she finally spoke in a strong yet wavering voice. “But I want you to promise me that whatever happens, you’ll protect Robin.” They looked at each other and in the silence of the room, they could feel the depth of Anna’s request. “Promise me that if it comes down to protecting her or me…you’ll keep her safe.”

“Robin’s not going to let you…” he tried to say but Anna’s voice stopped him.

“Promise me.” She insisted.

Sonny paused and looked at her. He saw the love and worry that Anna held for her daughter and he could not refuse her request. He could not refuse it for her, nor could he refuse it for himself.

“I will.”

“No matter what…” Anna added.

“I’d die before I let anything happen to her again.” He answered in a bare whisper.

Just then, Sonny’s phone rang. He reached for his phone and picked it up.

“Yes.” He said, answering his cell phone.

“Boss, it’s me.” Johnny spoke.

“What is it?” Sonny asked, getting a strange feeling all of a sudden.

“We found who was driving the car that hit Ms. Devane.”

“Who was it?” Sonny quickly demanded.

“Lucky Spencer.” He said to an astounded Sonny.

“Alright, thanks. Anything else you find you contact me right away.”

Sonny hung up the phone as Anna looked at him impatiently.

“What? What is it?” she asked not even caring if she sounded too nosy.

“We know who ran you over.” He said as he looked extremely thoughtful.

“Who?” she asked, not understanding what was taking him so long to just get the name out…

“Lucky Spencer.” He said as a look of confusion came across Anna’s face.

“Luke and Laura’s little boy???” she exclaimed with shock.

“Well, he’s not so little anymore.” Sonny affirmed.

“Right…” she said, remembering how long she’d been gone from Port Charles and how much things had changed. “But, why? Why would Lucky Spencer run me down?” she asked.

Right before Sonny could answer her questions, his cell phone rang once again.

“What is it?” he quickly answered it.

“You’ve got company. Get out of the house.” Johnny immediately informed his boss.

Sonny quickly hung up the phone.

“What?” Anna said, knowing that something was wrong.

“We need to get out of here…” he told her. “I need to find Jason.”

“I need to find Robin.” Anna rectified.

“We need to get out of here…” Sonny said as he helped her rush to the front door. “Can you walk?” he asked her.

“Yes.” She answered, not sure if she was lying or not. “They’re on the beach…what is going on?” she then asked in a panic.

“We’ve got visitors. We need to find Jason and Robin and get the hell out of here.” He told her as Anna grabbed her wound and rushed out of the house with Sonny.

--

Robin slowly walked into the night towards the house. She noticed that a light was on in the living room and assumed that her mother was still awake. The wind blew her hair away from her face as she slowly walked away from the beach and in the direction of the beach house.

Once she arrived to the house, she walked in and looked around the empty living room.

“Mom?” She called out but got no response.

Robin frowned a little and kept walking inside the living room.

“Sonny?” she then called out and was more worried when she got no answer at all.

Just then, she heard a noise coming from behind her and turned around in the poorly lit room and froze.

She looked around herself but saw nothing and no one. Just then, a forceful hand grabbed her from behind. She fought as hard as she could but the intruder was too strong for her. He nearly ripped her arm off. She tried to scream but he stopped her with his hands. She kicked him and he finally loosened his grip enough so that Robin could distance herself and run towards the door.
--

Carly stood outside on the porch and pondered whether to walk in or not. She took a deep breath and shook her head.

“No…” she whispered to herself. “I’m not going anywhere…” she added as she turned the doorknob slowly.

She carefully walked in and noticed the lack of lighting in the house.

Robin saw the door open but before she could even utter a word, the intruder had once again grabbed her. She felt a painful sting on her arm as her eyes travelled from the door to the needle now stuck in her arm. Things suddenly seemed to happen in slow motion around her. The needle fell to the floor as she felt her head spin. She was suddenly very dizzy and everything was a blur.

“Robin!” Carly shouted as she walked in, but as soon as the words were out she felt something hard and heavy hit her over the head. She fell to the floor in pain and then felt two hands grab her. When she tried to fight the man, he hit her repeatedly until she fell on the floor, unconscious.

A sweaty and dizzy Robin fell back into the arms of her aggressor, unable to stand on her own two feet. Her breathing was irregular and all she could make out in the blur that was in front of her was a man picking up Carly.

“Ca…” she tried to speak but couldn’t clearly make out Carly’s name.

The drugs they had injected her quickly fulfilled their purpose and Robin fell to her knees. The stranger that was holding her arms roughly grabbed her and made her stand up. When she couldn’t, he let her fall on the floor, helplessly.
