Subject: Dance With Life -- Chapter 15!

I know it's been a while but here it goes! I haven't forgotten about this story...this is sort of a transitional chapter so the next ones should be better. :)

CHAPTER – 15 –

Her heart was racing a mile a second. She had to keep positive thoughts to keep herself from collapsing on the ground. But, only one thought kept raging through her head – Robin. Anna could feel the pounding of her heart in her chest, resounding in her ears like a drum, as she followed Sonny to the beach. She had a bad feeling about this that she simply couldn’t shake.

The darkened night inspired nothing good. Anna and Sonny were literally rushing on the beach in hopes of bumping into Robin and Jason. Sonny seemed overly confident that the two were together, and as much as Anna wanted it to be true, she couldn’t help but be doubtful.

She could bare the pain of her wound, but Anna knew she’d never be able to bare the pain if anything happened to Robin. The air seemed thicker – harder to breathe than usual – as the single thought of Robin being hurt invaded her mind. Anna was walking behind Sonny. Walking wounded seemed difficult, but she didn’t care. She was clearly in pain but she was set on not showing it too much. It didn’t matter how much it hurt…not until they’d found Robin. She needed to see with her own two eyes that her daughter was fine before her mind could be at ease.

All of a sudden, she grabbed her side, painfully, as she slowed the pace of her walk.

“Sonny…” she grumbled in a chocked voice. “Wait.” She said in a barely audible tone.

Sonny immediately turned around to face her.

“What is it? Did you pull some stitches?” he quickly asked, with surprising concern.

“No.” Anna exasperatingly replied with a slightly frustrated groan. “I just…” she added before momentarily turning away from him, searching the night for a sign of her daughter. “I have a bad feeling about this.” She said in a fearful tone.

“Don’t worry. We’re going to find Robin and Jason and get the hell out of here….to a safer place…” he said as guilt and frustration filled his words, which Anna quickly sensed.

“Sonny…” Anna tried to interject but to no avail.

“I should never have brought you all here! This place isn’t safe.” He continued, but Anna grabbed his arm.

“Don’t do that!” she begged of him, almost angrily, which surprised him a bit, but he didn’t show it. “Don’t you dare feel guilty for something that’s not even related to you.”

“That’s where you’re wrong.” Sonny argued. “When it comes to Robin, it relates to me.” He said, trying to hold back his fears. “And I promised her I would keep you safe, and I will. And I promised you that I would keep her safe and I swear I will keep my word.” He told her with determination.

“Don’t you get it?!” Anna exclaimed as tears threatened her tone of voice, but she held them back. Sonny just stared at her, silently. “There is no safe place!” she blurted out in an emotional and sudden outburst.

“Look, you either trust me or you don’t.” Sonny said a bit irritated.

“It’s not a matter of trust.” Anna rectified.

“Then what is it?” he asked, not really waiting for her to answer. “There is a safe place and I’ll find it.” He stubbornly added.

“No, there isn’t.” she firmly responded, trying to make a point. It was killing her to admit it, but she had to. “As long as Robin is with me, she will never be safe.” She said, painfully. “Look at her life!” she said throwing her hands in the air. “How many times have I put her in danger?? And I’m doing it again…”

“You think she’s safe with me?!?” Sonny interrupted her with a louder voice. “Most of all, do you think she even cares??” Sonny added as his voice slightly trembled.

“No.” Anna said, calmly. “She doesn’t. And that’s why I have to care for her.” She said in an emotional statement.

“No.” Sonny argued as he shook his head. “You don’t need a reason to care for her. She’s our daughter. She’s your family.” He said in a quiet, almost sad tone. He paused and stared at her for a moment. “And that’s what she is to me. I pushed it aside, but I didn’t forget…she’s like family. She’s my family, no matter what.” He affirmed with a slightly regretful tone.

“I know she cares about you.” Anna confessed.

“And I know she loves you, and I won’t let anything happen to her. It’s an old promise I intend to keep.” He said, lowering his tone and his eyes a bit.

“A promise to whom?” Anna asked with an intense and curious stare.

Sonny looked up and saw her face in the moonlight. He was almost taken aback by the strong resemblance to Robin. He wasn’t sure he even wanted to answer that.

Right then, out of nowhere, Jason came running all the while putting his shirt back on.

“Sonny?” he called from a distance. “Sonny?!” he called repeatedly as he approached Sonny and Anna.

Both, Anna and Sonny turned around to face him, surprised and relieved. That is, until they noticed he was alone.

“Jason…” Anna said, expectantly as he stopped running in front of them, breathless.

“Where’s Robin?” Jason asked, completely out of breath.

“What??!!” Anna exclaimed in a loud shock. “Wasn’t she with you?”

“She was…but…” Jason said, stumbling on his own words as he tried to wrap his brain around the situation. “I thought she went to you…”

“We thought you were with her.” Sonny said, now starting to panic. “Where did she tell you she was going?” he asked a still heavy-breathing Jason.

“She didn’t.” he said as simply as possible. “I just woke up and…” he began.

“You what??” Sonny threw at him in a loud, angry voice.

“It’s not the point!” Jason threw back.

Both men obviously struck by fear had trouble controlling their own tone of voice. Through the short, yet intense exchange, Anna’s face dropped.

“I thought she went to find you guys.” Jason said after taking a deep breath.

“We came to find the two of you because we thought Robin was with you!” Anna said as she clenched her jaw, trying to maintain a certain calm.

“We have trouble Jason.” Sonny said in a low tone of voice. “We need to find Robin and get the hell out of here…right now.” He said through his teeth.

Just as he spoke the words, Anna turned around and started rushing towards the house. Sonny and Jason went after her and Sonny stopped her by grabbing her arm.

“Wait!” he said as she turned around.

“What?!” she literally shouted at him.

“You can’t go in there.” Jason said in a respectful yet decisive voice. “You stay here with Sonny and I’ll go get Robin.” He announced but Sonny argued.

“No, Jason. You stay here with her…”

“Hey…hey…HEY!” Anna shouted to shut them both up. “I am not staying here.” She said in a strong and determined tone. “When we’re talking about my daughter, I don’t care who either of you are to her, you are not calling the shots.” She said before turning around and going to the house.

Sonny and Jason quickly followed behind her. A breathless Anna rushed through the already opened front door and scanned the living room fearfully. The entire house seemed to bathe in a haunting and unbearable silence.

“Robin…?” she called in a trembling voice at first.

She walked into the room just as Sonny and Jason stormed in behind her. Jason tried to turn on the lights but the power was out. He and Sonny exchanged a rather dangerous look and Sonny quickly pulled on Anna’s arm, pulling her back towards the door. When she looked up, she saw the fear in his eyes – that fear he was trying to hide so well, but she could see it.

Sonny reached for his gun and pulled it out as he took a few steps into the room. He didn’t call Robin’s name, thinking that maybe some other people were in the house. Sonny looked around the living room but didn’t see anyone. The house seemed to be empty, which relieved and alarmed everyone at once.

Anna’s eyes rested on the broken furniture and the mess that had once been a living room. Jason scanned the floor with his eyes and noticed some blood on the side of the small table. He felt his heart skip a beat as he bent down and stared at it.

“Robin?!” Sonny called out from the bottom of the stairs, but there was no answer.

“Sonny…” Jason said as he pointed to a syringe lying on the ground.

“Oh God…” Anna signed to herself as she walked towards it.

“We need to call Johnny…” Sonny started explaining to Jason but Anna couldn’t make what they were saying.

She was numb. Her mind was a complete blur. All she could think about was what they had done to her daughter. They had Robin. She suddenly couldn’t breathe at the simple thought they that could hurt her….or that they already had. She turned away from them and looked at the floor before her, as she walked slowly towards the wall. Suddenly, as her consciousness floated back, she noticed something resting on the floor near the door. She bent down and picked it up, carefully, and examined it. It was a purse. She knew instantly that it wasn’t Robin’s – it was definitely not Robin’s style – but she also knew that she had never seen it before.

“What is this?” she asked as Sonny and Jason approached her.

“This is Carly’s purse.” Sonny finally spoke after looking at it.

“Are you sure?” Jason asked in a trembling voice, even though he tried to hide it as best as he could.

“I’m sure.” Sonny answered, thoughtfully.

Anna let the purse drop to the floor and turned around. Her heart stopped as she finally took notice of the sight that stood in front of her. There were several signs of struggle in the living room. She saw traces of blood, the syringe, Carly’s purse…and then all of a sudden, a small tear rolled down her cheek. She tried to keep a strong voice but she couldn’t.

“If anything happens to Robin…” she whispered in a barely audible voice.

“No.” Jason said as he put both hands on her shoulders and looked at her.

His voice was in control but she could see the utter desperation and fear in his eyes. She could hear his heart pounding in his chest as he stared into her eyes, trying to act strong but breaking up inside all at once.

“We’re going to find her, and we’re going to make whoever did this pay.” He said through his teeth. “I swear to you, if they so much as touch her…” he said and Anna stood still for a second.

What she saw in Jason’s eyes and in his voice wasn’t unexpected but it was like a revelation. He saw tears form in the corner of her eyes as she wrapped her arms around her neck and held onto him. She wasn’t sure if she was doing that because she needed it or because she thought he did. Maybe both.

“We’ll bring her back…no matter what.” Sonny whispered as he watched Anna and Jason hold on to each other, awkwardly at first and then as normally as possible in the circumstances.

--

Her face was freezing cold and she felt something wet travel down the back of her neck. It took her some time to become conscious of the fact that she was lying face down on a freezing cement floor. She slowly opened her eyes as her blonde hair stuck to the side of her check. She pushed the strand of hair away before staring at blood-covered fingers.

Carly slowly lifted herself up in a seated position and became suddenly aware of the strong headache she had. She closed her eyes for an instant before reopening them and searching the room in confusion. All she remembered was walking into the beach house…Robin. She remembered Robin. And then it was all a blur. She wasn’t sure what she remembered anymore. She looked at her surroundings but there was nothing much except for wooden walls and a door. Carly quickly made a dash for the door and tried to open it, without much luck.

“Help!” she screamed at the top of her lungs. “Is anybody out there?? Please!” she said repeatedly for a little while and then stopped when obviously no one was going to come.

Carly turned around and leaned her back against the door. Just as she did so, her eyes fell upon a body lying down on the floor at the other side of the tiny room. She momentarily froze, and then she recognized the unconscious body.

“Robin…” Carly whispered to herself with a frown.

At that point, she couldn’t understand a thing that was happening, or why, but she limped her way to Robin’s body. Carly grabbed Robin’s arms and turned her around so that she was now lying on her back.

“Robin…Robin…” Carly spoke as she did so, trying to wake her up. “Oh great, this is just what I needed…” Carly muttered to herself as she tried to shake Robin up a little.

Robin’s eyes started to make movements and soon Carly could hear a deep groan coming from Robin’s throat.

“Robin…hey.” Carly said, trying to get her attention. “Robin, wake up.” She added in a more impatient voice.

Robin’s eyes battled to open, and they did, momentarily.

“Oh great…” Carly grumbled as she stared at Robin for a while. She thought about just leaving her on the floor and let her wake up on her own but then she took a deep breath and sighed. Carly reached under Robin’s head and tried to lift her up a little. “Why me? Why do these things have to happen to me?” she muttered as she tried to make a stoned Robin sit.

“Robin….can you hear me?” Carly said, holding Robin’s head close to the wall so that she wouldn’t fall on the floor.

“Carly?” Robin said with a certain disgust and disappointment in her voice that she didn’t necessarily mean to show.

“Don’t tempt me to drop you.” Carly said in a defensive mode as Robin tried to reopen her eyes.

Suddenly, Robin’s face twisted and Carly looked confused.

“What now?” she asked in an irritated tone.

Robin’s head bent forward and Carly quickly pushed it back up.

“Carly…” Robin said in a barely loud enough voice so that Carly would hear. “I don’t fell so g…” she added, but couldn’t finish her sentence.

Robin barely had the time to lean forward before throwing up all over the place.

So? what did you think?
