Subject: DANCE WITH LIFE -- Chapter 1

Hey there. I'm new around here but I've mostly lurked for a while. I'm a writer at heart and I thought maybe you'd be interested in this. It is my first attempt at JnR fanfic but I have written fanfics for other soaps. This is only the first chapter so bare with me...

FanFiction: General Hospital – Robin and Jason

CHAPTER 1 –

The air was slightly cold for this time of year as a breeze blew through Port Charles. Spring, with its returning sun and approaching warmth, was a refreshing and welcome change from the cold winter that had plagued this town. A lot had happened in the last few weeks. The whole town had literally stood in disbelief as Anna Devane Scorpio finally came back to her hometown – to her family. Surprise soon led way to questions, which Anna could barely answer herself. All she knew was that she was finally back where she belonged, with her family, and most importantly, with her daughter. Or at least, she would be, soon.

Robin, who already knew about her mother being alive for a month or so, was on her way to Port Charles. Paris was a beautiful place to live and she loved her life there, but something inside of her always referred to Port Charles as her home. After learning the truth about Anna, Robin had considered taking a semester off to be with her mother. So much time wasted…so many years lost. Robin couldn’t even fathom the idea of leaving her mother behind to go back to Paris anytime soon. She was still pondering what she would do, but she figured she would play it by ear and see what would feel right once she was back in Port Charles. Back there. Where everything is a memory, every stop sign is a reminder of the past and of who she used to be. She used to be what exactly? Robin seemed unable to answer that question herself. Sometimes she believed that she lost herself somewhere in Port Charles. Somewhere around that bridge maybe. Yet, sometimes she believed that she found herself there. She didn’t really know. All she knew was that she was ready to go home. She was ready to just be there, with her mother, no matter what or who would remind her of the pain.

Robin sat at the airport, all by herself and stared out the window, waiting for her flight to be announced. She thought back to all the heartache of the past years, all that she had been through, and she smiled. God knows, finally, after all these years, it made her smile. Everything that had brought her tears in the past seemed to all gather in a bundle of strength inside of her. Losing her parents. Stone. Being diagnosed HIV positive. Jason… Somehow, Robin smiled at the thought of everything she’d endured. No wonder everyone at school couldn’t measure on an emotional level with her. As much as all of these things had been tough, she knew she had been strong enough to pull through, and it paid off. She found her mom again. If she had to go through it all just to end up where she was at this very moment, about to reunite with her mother for good, she’d do it all over.

“Tous les passagers en direction de Port Charles, États-Unis, sont priés de se présenter à la porte d’embarcation numéro 312.”

Robin looked up as she heard the French voice announce her flight, got up, picked up her small bag and walked towards door 312.

Anna had been in Port Charles for about 2 days now. Everything seemed to be happening so fast, she could barely grasp all of it. Everything looked different somehow, yet it all still felt like home. The faces were slightly different; the buildings had changed a bit… It would take some getting used to but she couldn’t be happier. She had seen Robin in Paris a week ago, like she promised, but it still felt like it had been much longer. She couldn’t wait for her daughter to get back.

It was late evening, and Anna was walking the streets of Port Charles, giving herself a private tour of the town, but mostly just thinking about Robin. She had missed so much of her daughter’s life; it broke her heart just to imagine everything Robin had gone through while she wasn’t there. When Robin had first told her about being HIV +, all Anan had wanted to do was take her daughter into her arms and cry. She hadn’t been there when her little girl needed her the most and all she hoped for was that she could make it up to her, somehow.

After a while, Anna ended up somewhere she couldn’t quite remember having been to before. Somehow, while she had been lost in her thoughts about Robin, she had ended up on this bridge. A bit isolated from the nightlife of the town, Anna had strangely been drawn to it, as if she just had to go there for some reason. She stood there and walked towards the edge of the bridge and looked in the horizon. She felt so small, standing there in her pair of worn-out jeans and black jacket as her hair fell down on her shoulders.

Suddenly, she heard a noise behind her and quickly turned around, on instinct. She didn’t have time to react before a man, wearing a ski mask pushed her against the wall and reached for her wallet. It didn’t take long for Anna to get back into her Scorpio-detective mode and she kicked the man right where it hurts.

“You bastard…” she muttered as she pushed him away.

The guy shot a deadly look at her and pulled out a knife. He slowly approached her, and even though Anna knew she was defenseless at that point, she couldn’t help but think what an amateur this guy was at this. She’d been attacked much better than this before.

“You shouldn’t have done this.” The stranger spoke in a low voice.

Just as he was about to grab Anna again, someone came out of nowhere and grabbed the man by the throat, throwing him onto the floor and grabbing the knife away from him. Anna watched, amazed, as the two strangers fought it out. As the attacker lay on the ground, the other man spoke in a strong, cold voice.

“Who are you?!”
When the attacker didn’t respond, the man in the leather vest asked again, this time in a demanding tone.

“I asked, who are you?!” he said as he ripped the mask off of the attacker’s face, only to reveal some young adolescent’s fearful eyes. “Get out of here,” he muttered under his breath. “Next time I won’t be so gentle.” He said as the young man ran away.

Anna had stayed silent through the whole thing, not exactly knowing what to think or what to say. As she regained her composure, she saw the leather-clad young man turn around to face her. In a true nature, Anna couldn’t help but make mental notes of the man’s appearance: Short hair, tall, strong, leather jacket and jeans.

“I…” she began as she walked towards him slowly. “Thank you.” She managed to speak out of gratitude.

The young man stared at her, mesmerized by how familiar she looked.

“No need to.” He spoke firmly.

“I’m…” She stumbled as she watched the slightly stunned, but mostly expressionless look in his eyes. “Are you okay?”

“I guess.” He simply answered. “Did he hurt you?” he then asked, sounding surprisingly concerned all of a sudden.

“I’m fine.” Anna replied in a perfect English accent. The young man now seemed lost in his own thoughts, as he stood there in front of her, silent. “I’m Anna.” She said softly.

“I know.” The young man almost whispered to himself.

“You do?” Anna replied a bit confused.

He didn’t respond initially.

“Do you have a name?” Anna asked as she raised her eyebrows expectantly.

There was a short silence between the two of them.

“I’m Jason.” He finally spoke in a low voice.
