Subject: Jacob

We ended up going to the emerg. in London on Tuesday night because Jacob went into status again and we had run out of the subingual Ativan. By the time we got there his seizures had started to taper off but we went anyway because we had to address the insommia situation. First they put in an I.V. (they actually found a vein)then they did some bloodwork to check his electrolytes which came back normal so no infection. Then they called the neurologist on call who decided to put him back on Dilantin( I had already discussed this with the neurological team when he was in hospital), so they gave him a loading dose this was at 1:00 a.m. he had already been up since 7:oo a.m. of course this knocked him out . Yeah!!! asleep at last. Then the neurologist on call suggested upping his Chloral Hydrate dose to 15 mls. up from 10 mls. which he was on before. The neurologist on call was actually the one who cut him back because he thought his dose would be to high with all the medication increases they had done. I argued at the time but he wouldn't leave well enough alone and put us through 10 days of sleepless agony. So anyways last night he got his 15 Mls. dose back and was asleep within 15 minutes and slept through the night. Maybe now they will listen to me and realize that i do know my child and am not making it up about him needing the higher dose. He only had 1 seizure yesterday compared to 30-40 in the 2 previous days. Chris
