Subject: Age Appropriate boy behaviour at recess -age 11-13

My Son is 12 in July and I am having difficulty with teachers decision to ban toys from school.
I recieved a note from school saying there were problems and could the toys stay at home. I wrote back that seeing as they hadn't the time to listen to my son's issues when he needed to talk them out I'd like to hear their alternatives(because his toys listen). I received a note back saying the ban didn't apply to him. So yesterday he took his T-Rex to play with at recess and teachers in both his classes were "unhappy"(not the words they used) with him and wrote notes in the communication book that there was a ban and he wasn't to bring any more. The reason this time was that it wasn't age appropriate for him to have toys on the play ground and it would improve acceptance by his peers if he didn't have toys at school.
What else do boys that age do at recess? The kid can't/doesn't play sports, is intergrated in to a grade 4 music class and not included in school wide grade 6-8 field trips despite the fact he's in a PDD grade 6 class and transitioning to the PDD grade 7/8 class. And don't you need some one(or more) to play with if you are to play sports on a playground? Suggestions?
