Subject: Ethan is in SickKids

Hello all....we are still in SickKids....I will try to be brief. Sorry to see that the meeting was cancelled. We had 4 days of headaches at home last week Thursday March 1st thru to Sunday March 4th...went to London on Sunday March 4th at 7 p.m....I did notice Chris Lussier there but was unable to speak to you and when I looked for you again you were gone..., tranferred Ethan to SickKids by Ambulance at 1:30 a.m. Monday as Kevin and I drove behind. Got here at 3:30 a.m. Monday... Did lots of tests, CT scan, MRI and ultrasound, got to a room on the ward Monday afternoon. Surgery was scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m......third ventriculostomy puncture...with an external ventricular drain. so they were able to remove the old shunt with some difficulty....Ethan has been stable and must remain in the same position most of the time...is able to get up and go to the washroom and walk for short times (20 min) then repositioned and levelled again. Today...waiting to see what the external drain is doing......we clamped it to let the 3rd ventric work on its own...not going well...draining at the site...not good sign! So we have to wait to see the doctor on Monday... Posibility of another surgery and reinserting a new shunt. May be here until the end of the week...March 16th. We are all tired and bored...Ethan is being a real trouper with the Nurses...they all adore him. Accomodations are expensive and meals cost way to much too. I will try to undate again if I get a chance in a few days. We are so homesick and feel very isolated.....Kevin went home to check the farm for the weekend..... it is a long way for our families to travel....and too busy a city so they have not been here to visit......We are just taking one day at a time.........Marla
