Subject: Just shaking my head

I had my son's worker agree to go to school with him this week to support him during part of the school day to maintain his routines and behavior program they put him through last fall. You know, to help him stay optimum for his EAs until they return so they won't have to start over. A way of supporting the EAs right and choice to strike giving them the freedom to take all the time they need to get a good and proper settlement and assert their right of peaceful assembly while meeting my son's needs and allowing him to exercise his right to a safe education with his peers. I thought my son's staff would appreciate the support. Last Friday was his PSW's first day. I was unaware there'd be picketers at the school and some of these were excessively rude and despariging of her. I was ashamed of and angered the behaviour of those few and wrote a brick for the local paper. I haven't sent it in yet but it's taken me this long to cool off enough to speak rationally. Some of those individuals were her friends and they hurt her enough that she asked that I release her from our agreement. My son has now been home for 4 days and asks daily "May I go to school today? Why can't I go? What's strike mean?" this is the same child who's mantra every morning has been "I'm not going anywhere!"
I can state for a fact that the steps for success behaviour program they had for him is now unlearned and his behavior is regressing. If I had a babysitter for little brother and a ride I would be there myself. I supported the action until direct actions of a few undignified people have deprived my son of his daily essentials and made more work and stress for the folks who actually work with him. Now I'm just shaking my head wondering why these events bring out the worst in people esspecially in front of a school that promotes respect and manners as it's calling card.
