Date Posted: 04:46:33 05/19/14 Mon Lightning Motorcycles is launching the “World’s Fastest Production Motorcycle” – and it is an ELECTRIC bike. The LS-218 – named after it’s 218.637mph record set at Bonneville Flats – has a 200hp, liquid-cooled electric motor. The direct drive goes to 10,500 revs, putting out 168lb-ft of torque. The LS-218 features inverted Ohlins forks, 17” Marchesini forged magnesium wheels and 320mm Brembro brakes to haul it’s 495lb weight to a halt. It is reported to reach 60mph in under three seconds. The bike has three varieties of battery available, maxing out at a 20 kWh lithiuk-ion pack that can give 160-180 miles to a charge. This will take two hours to charge, though Lightning claim a 30-minute charge is possible using a quick charger. The LS-218 retails at USD 38,888 (GBP 23,100).
