Ariel is to make a new motorcycle, for the first time since the 1970s. Director Simon Saunders confirmed the news at an event to launch an Ariel Atom car they are loaning to police.

Details are sketchy at the moment, but it is understood the bike will be powered by the same 1,237cc, 76-degree V4 currently fitted to the Honda VFR1200F. Rumour has it Ariel will keep the single-side swingarm and shaft drive, but no news yet on whether the DCT option will be made available.

The new bike should be available in 2015.
