Date Posted: 06:19:15 06/06/14 Fri Chelmsford has seen the installation of the UK’s first motorcycle parking ‘stations’. The ‘station’ has a conventional parking space, along with a storage container allowing the rider to stash their kit. Creator Toni Impieri said the new facility would encourage riders to wear protective clothing as they do not have to carry it about with them the whole time. Councillor Ian Grundy, Chelmsford City Council cabinet member for safer communities, said: "Obviously we want to see how it goes. But it's an important step, it's the way forward, it's innovation and I totally support it and there's no cost to the taxpayer at all," adding the possible introduction of electric bikes in the city at a later date could fuel demand. Three of the parking ‘stations’ have been installed for a three month trial, two at Fairfield Road Long Stay car park and one at Parkway Short Stay surface car park.
