The ‘Captain America’ chopper ridden by Peter Fonda in “Easy Rider” has sold for a World Record US$1.35 million.

But the sale has caused controversy, with another owner coming forward to claim they another bike, which restorer Dan Haggerty attested was the only one. Haggerty has admitted to authenticating both bikes, but assured the one up for auction is the only one still in existence.

Peter Fonda, who co-wrote and starred in Easy Rider, was angered by the auction and had called for its cancellation, warning "There's a big rat stinking someplace in this.”
