San Francisco company Lit Motors has designed an electric scooter with the developing world in mind (where unreal amounts of cargo are often balanced on top, which creates a dangerous shift in the centre of gravity).

In the centre of the scooter is a square space that can accommodate boxes of up to 50x50x50cm (20x20x20 inches), with the rider sitting on a saddle right at the back, above the powerplant over the rear wheel. Cargo capacity is estimated at 198lbs (90kgs). Steering comes via handlebars on either side of the bike, which are pushed or pulled in tandem.

Lit estimates the scooter will cost US$ 5,000.
