The vixen raised an eyebrow, sitting back on her heels and eyeing the babe when it stiffened and snarled at her. Well. Not quite the reception she'd been looking for, but then again, she supposed she would have reacted in the same manner...

"Leave me be, vixen. You'll find I'm no puppet... Don't touch me! I don't need your merry cup of poison."

Xan laughed quietly at that, darkly. Ah, but apparently even 'vermin' babes didn't like her... And interesting turn of events, to be sure. The woodlanders didn't like her because she was vermin, the vermin didn't like her because she didn't kill every woodlander she met.

The distinctions between goodbeast and vermin just... blurred, around her. Gods, but if any of the fortbeasts gave her reason, she'd gladly slit on of their throats with no remorse, yet she was not of the sort to blindly kill a person for petty reasons--personal gain, they-looked-at-me-funny, my-leader-told-me-to. She sighed, keeping the dry, half-smirk on her face, rubbing the back of her neck wearily as the small weasle snatched up a large, wooden spoon.

And she almost laughed again... but, seeing hte look on the babe's face, decided it was probably not the best thing to do. Enough pride for ten-beasts, in this one...

"Relax, young one. I'm certainly not going to feed you poison, nor did I even once try to touch you."

Granted, she knew she should just leave and let things be, but... unfortunately--for who, she was not sure--, this babe intrigued her. Maybe a different approach; most likely, the other beasts around here would use a sympathetic mein and whatnot to care for her.

Now... not that there was anything wrong with that...

But with this child's pride--visible to anyone with half an eye--would probably not allow such pity and coddling to reach her. No... this was a young vermin; all pride and anger and agression covering up a small amount of inner fear.

Maybe treating her like an equal...

And so, instead of offering the small one her aid in anything, the vixen merely quirked an eyebrow. Amber eyes flashed as she smiled, standing and pulling a nearby chair closer, dropping down into it and gazing at the babe, keeping her expression as detached and neutrally respectful--and almost as coldly calculating--as one 'vermin' making a business transaction with another.

"Keep your weapon if you wish. Let's just... talk a moment, shall we?"
