I have been in the program for about 8 months. I have found job hunting very frustrating. It seems there have been so many nurses before us that have relapsed, that we are having difficulty. The program has reformed it's policy for acceptance (narrowed ). I couldn't belive that they would hire a new grad over a nurse with 20 odd years on the job ! It angers me that the hospitals work nurses 16 hour days, no breaks or lunches and still ask you to work more overtime, then can't have more understanding for the nurses with problems. I was told by Green Memorial Hospital that they could not hire an RN on the program because they had a nurse relapse and die. So they asked me for the "exact details of my addiction. " I would like to know what our leagal rights are as far as the American Disability Act. I realize nurses are unique because we handle drugs, but my gosh , give us a chance. If we screw up, make us liable in any way they want. But give us a chance !
