Subject: Bridge roofs an overview

In the future there will ba an article in the up and coming Titanic and Olympic Picture Palace.

Based on the new photographs I have, I believe the roofs were a light gray because of the Bitumastic coating over the tongue and groove wood roof. The wood is seen from the inside. This would have been for traction and water proofing. The Olympic's roof WAS originally painted white. I believe they either painted, or used a white Bitumastic coating over the roof originally. This picture is taken from the air and shows the white roof. This also goes along with the picture Bob Read sent me some time ago. The roof was changed to match the Titanic's during the 1912-13 refit when they extended the officers deckhouse forward. This is the time that I would believe the roof was redone in the gray. It was not white anuymore, that is for sure!
Wait until you see the photographs! I also believe that the aft quarter of the #4 funnel casing's roof was either planked or also gray with the Bitumastic. The picture shade matches the wood planking of the raised roof just below. I personally will go with the gray Bitumastic coating but jusge for yourself. In any case, it was not the dark builders gray of the rest of the casing tops.
