WOODSTOCK (CP) - Crops are a mixed bag in southwestern Ontario this year, with some yields in good shape and others down due to drought conditions earlier in the season.

"There's quite a bit of variability across Oxford (County), depending on where the rains came," said Christine Brown, nutrient management specialist with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. "The wheat crop was great."

Corn crops turned out to be better than expected, considering the dry conditions for much of this year.

Soybeans, however, did not fare so well.

"Soybeans were a disaster this year," Brown said.
