Subject: It just keeps getting better!

Brian Johnson just committed to guess who...DELAWARE!!! Man, we really needed this kid. Now our only guards are Tristan and Jeremy. We lost Tyrone Lewis to Niagara, Darrell Johnson backed out of a verbal and is going to delaware, and now Brian Johnson is also going to Delaware...not a good few days on the recruiting front. And of course DA going to hated rival QUinnipiac is some nice salt in the wounds....let's hope Howie and the boys can rack up some talent soon!

So both Johnsons are going to Delaware? Just a week ago they hired a new coach and now things are looking brighter for the Blue Hens. I think Delaware is returing a game to New Britain from last season, so this should be interesting.

But you know its a lot easier to recruit when your conference (CAA) has multiple NCAA bids and multiple NIT bids, including Final Four apperances in both tourneys. Come on, its not that Delaware has better coaches or more winning seasons than we have at Central in the past few years, its just a better conference and facilities!

Again, in my opinion Howie and his staff have always had an eye for talent, it just very hard convincing a good mid-major player to come to the NEC. I am still shocked at some of the very good talent we have gotten over the years with our limitations.

Did you know we were once in the same conference with Delaware and Towson? Around 1992 in the East Coast Conference(ECC). When the realignments happened back then CCSU was shut out by many schools and conferences and was left to be an Independent once again before joining the Mid-Con and then the NEC.

There is no reason we can't recruit and win games against the likes of Delaware, Towson, Niagara, Manhattan, Boston U., or Vermont. I mean look at the recruits Pikell is getting at Stony Brook! We at CCSU know he's a good recruiter, but look at the facilities and conference he has to show players compared to what Howie has.

This is a drum I beat a lot, but remember the coaches and staff can only do so much with our current resources and situation. If this isn't a sign of a needed change in conference affiliation and more funding, then I don't know what is.

I think J.J. hit it on the nose... It's time to start to upgrade/update facilities at CCSU... I was totally shocked when you guys lost your head football coach... now your recruits/potential recruits see other programs that are doing things to make their programs look more attractive... CCSU is a pretty big school... There's no excuse why you guys can't have legit facilities... Looks like we (taxpayers of the state of CT) are putting all our money towards the school in Storrs, CT...when CCSU, which is also a state university, should be benefitting from these contributions as well... Time for New Britain, CT to get put on the map... Or else, before you know, you'll be getting outrecruited by the likes of Fairfield, Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac and UHart...

It's time that "we" (the fans posting on Voy) stop talking about upgrades in facilities and why it should be done....this energy should be focused on laying the groundwork for it to be done! Come on now... there must have been some talk about this w/the legislature. AND AGAIN... what ever happened to that $250,000 study for the possibilities for an on campus arena????

Hey Inside.... any word on this topic recently?

It's still listed under the campus construction update as beginning in 2007, with completion in 2009, but I think that is still just the original "brainstorm" not anything concrete

"A new fieldhouse will be the centerpiece of the University's efforts to enhance intercollegiate athletics and recreation. It will replace the Kaiser Annex and include an eighth-mile track and four courts for basketball and tennis. The new facility will offer large activity spaces including a performance court, pool, dance studio and fitness lab. The reconfigured fieldhouse will seat 8000 - 9000 to provide an expanded venue for indoor sporting events, and will also allow the campus to accommodate commencement exercises and student related functions. An addition to the Student Center is currently underway, expanding the snack bar and adding much needed offices for student organizations and student related functions."

This is my last comment on this subject Newbritainite...promise!

I just would like to say that you guys do a great job of maximizing what you have. Anytime you can even recruit on the same level as CAA schools and you are in the NEC you are doing a great job. I was wondering what was going on at CCSU for them to be in the running for the same recruits that we are targeting at Delaware. I do have some good news for you though. Realignment is coming very soon just as it did with the 1-A programs for football. CCSU really needs to jump on this bandwagon. Old Dominion, GMU, and Georgia State are putting things in place to begin football programs. The CAA sponsors football in 2007 as they will take over the A-10 Conference. Holdover schools from the A-10 Conference were invited to join the CAA in football as they wanted to keep the league intact. However, as the three aforementioned CAA programs have explored sponsoring football non-CAA schools have become outcasts because Old Dominion has 2009 set as their first year in football. As a CAA member they receive automatic entry into the conference and the conference will NOT have over 12 teams. So Rhode Island, UMass, Maine, New Hampshire, Richmond, and Villanova will end up forming their own conference with Nova, UMass, Duquesne, Rhode Island, and Richmond as football only members of course. I tell you what, a conference of New Hampshire, Maine, UMass, Rhode Island, Richmond, Villanova, Albany, Stony Brook, Lehigh,Lafayette, Duquesne, and CCSU would be a very strong conference. Of course you know that this conference would have no problems getting playoff berths without the automatic bid.
