Another great game (actually 3) for the schedule in 06-07. Sounds like this may replace the MS tourney at Detrick next year.

From the Hartford Courant:

A three-day men's basketball tournament that would include UConn, Central Connecticut and two other teams is in the works for the Civic Center for the early part of the 2006-07 season.

The event, to benefit the Hispanic College Fund, would be held on three days in mid-November.

"UConn has verbally agreed, and Central already has agreed to play," J. Fernando Barrueta, the fund's president and CEO, said Monday from his office in Washington. "We're looking at Nov. 17-18 and 20, but we're still working on the dates, the rest of the field and getting things finalized."

Last year, Oregon, North Carolina State and Georgetown hosted Hispanic College Fund Classic tournaments. The first two had four teams, with each playing three games in three days.

The tournaments are a major revenue producer for the organization, which provides underprivileged Latino youth with resources and scholarships.

If a deal is finalized, it would be the first time UConn has played in an early-season tournament in Hartford since the 1992 Connecticut Mutual Classic. Central played in the last early-season men's tournament at the Civic Center, the 2002 Phoenix Classic.

The Conn. Post also reported on the tentative Hispanic College Fund tourney at the HCC. CCSU is on board, UConn has given a verbal OK, and Calhoun said they are looking for a "name" team and they have spoke to TEMPLE! I'd expect 1 other mid-major to round out the 4-team field.
