Subject: Fall OOC schedules

Here's an off season topic. We've known the FB schedule for months. Here's some highlights to the fall OOC schedule recently posted on the website:

Womens Soccer - very tough schedule which the team hosts Boston College, Hartford, and UConn; plus at Hofstra, Yale, and Harvard.

Mens Soccer - host Loyola Marymount from the WCC and a recent DI team (and possible future NEC member) NJIT. Away games vs. New Hampshire, Vermont, and a trip for 2 games in Florida - Florida Atlantic and Florida International.

Volleyball - Travels to tourneys at Marist, Yale, and Colorado (which will include Cincy and Southern Miss). Will also host a CCSU invite, plus UConn and Providence from the Big East.

Where did you hear NJIT was going D1 & possibly joining the NEC? I couldn't find anything on their website.

NJIT began the upgrade to DI a few years ago. The NCAA allows lower division schools to play 1 mens and 1 womens sport at the DI level (except football and basketball). NJIT picked their most sucessfull team - men's soccer - and then added women's soccer to the DI level. Now all sports are "transitional" DI during the upcoming season. Their mens hoop team will played a mixed DI/DII schedule in 2006-07. I know they are playing Siena in basketball this season, and probably some other locals, including NEC teams.

As for possible membership in the NEC, that is just a wild guess on my part. As we know, the NEC took SHU and QU after their upgrade from DII. Of course, America East is a possibility too as they took the 3 SUNY schools upon their upgrade. Who knows what will happen, but at the least expect NJIT on many of your OOC schedules.

Maybe insider knows what the current talk is at the NEC offices. When are we getting a new comisssioner?
