Subject: 2006 John Thompson Challenge

Here is the schedule for the Thompson Challenge:

Day 1 -- Friday, November 10
Game 1 -- Eastern Michigan vs. Davidson, 6 p.m.
Game 2 -- U-M vs. Central Connecticut State, 8 p.m.

Day 2 -- Saturday, November 11
Game 3 -- Eastern Michigan vs. Central Connecticut State, 2 p.m.
Game 4 -- U-M vs. Davidson, 4 p.m.

Day 3 -- Sunday, November 12
Game 5 -- Davidson vs. Central Connecticut State, 2 p.m.
Game 6 -- U-M vs. Eastern Michigan, 4 p.m.

Host vs. Host Finale
Wednesday, November 15
Crisler Arena, Ann Arbor, Mich.
Game 7 -- Michigan vs. UW-Milwaukee, 7 p.m.

This info is from the UMICH website. Note that UMICH gets a fourth game in the Classic. (They have 20 home games this year.) Based on the description of that game, Wisconsin-Milwaukee may be hosting a similar event.

Thanks for the info...but now I am confused. How does UW-Mil. fit into this? Why are they the only team in the tourney playine one game? Am I missing something here?

As I suspected, Univ-Wisconsin-Milwaukee is hosting a similar event. Their website has not been updated of late, but I was able to get the following from the UMICH site. I quote:

"The 15-game non-conference schedule begins with the Wolverines hosting the John Thompson Challenge Friday through Sunday (Nov. 10-12). The John Thompson Challenge will be a round-robin tournament format played at Crisler Arena as well as U.S. Cellular Arena (Milwaukee, Wis.). Following the three-game round robin play, hosts Michigan and UW-Milwaukee will play a final challenge game at Crisler Arena (Wednesday, Nov. 15). Teams participating at the Michigan site will be Central Connecticut State, Davidson and Eastern Michigan, while teams at the UW-Milwaukee site will be Radford, UAB and Washington State."
