Subject: Stronger Conference?

I know the AE has better known name schools, but did anyone notice in the NEC MBB summer preview that the NEC was 11-3 versus the AE last year? Yeah...I agree moving to the AE would provide more regional exposure for CCSU, but this proves my point that it would be a lateral move at best, not a move "up".

All the more reason I wonder why the AE has two schools in the ESPN Bracket Buster series while the NEC has non.

I agree the NEC is generally very close to the AE in terms of MBB quality. Both are 1-bid leagues that are in the bottom-10 conference RPI. The AE had a great run with Vermont a few years ago, but I think most people agree that is the exception, not the rule.

But in terms of exposure and school profile, the AE is a better fit. They are the flagship public schools in their respective states (except BU, Hartford, and UMBC). Again, you have to wonder why UMBC was willing to switch, even though they are way outside the existing footprint.

From a MBB perspective it is a fun and intersting conference to watch and follow. Again, I can enjoy the NEC for what it is and I try to be positive becasue that where we are, but the fact is the conference is a metro-NY conference of small private schools. We do not fit that profile.

UConn was once a peer of Maine, UVM, etc. in the Yankee Conference. They became a huge national university and outgrew their New England roots. Why can't the state invest in Central as a true 'state university' and we can improve our profile and move closer to these New England/NY schools?

I agree JJ. CCSU needs financial backing...then we can move out of the NEC to a superior conference that fits CCSU better. My point is only that if CCSU is to move...lets move UP.
