Subject: Going Down To Georgia

Hey,

A lot of folks going to GA?
Too bad there's this thing called work...otherwise I may have considered the trip.
Not a bad deal.

Would be a pretty cool thing to see them play down there?

Anyone know what G Southern's stadium/ atmosphere is like?

I was seriously thinking about it but I am cycling in a 50 mile fund raising effort for breast cancer research Sunday morning and I was afraid the long trip back on Saturday would screw up my effort for Sunday.

Newbritainite...GA Southern is serious football country and I think they draw a tremendous crowd. CCSU MAY be able to play well against them but remember the RI game last year...and GA Southern is better than Rhody. It all depends on how well the Devil's start.

It's a tough place to play for an away team. They treat their football like a religion down there, but I am hopefull for at least a respectable result.

True. BUT don't forget that CCSU lost to Marist last season as well as RI.

I'm guessing (optimisticly) that the Blue Devils are stronger this year....the backfield?!

Hello from Georgia Southern... to answer your question about atmosphere.... the place rocks during the game, especially the student section, they sit behind the visiting team, and your fans will be seated in that general area as well, so things can be rowdy at times, but most fans are cordial to visitors. Absolute fantastic tail-gating, so please feel free to stop by and say hello, you will be treated very well. Looking forward to having you in Georgia!

A very respectful reply from GA!! Thats one thing I like about this forum...all the folks here show respect and courtesy...even if they are not CCSU fans. This is a far cry from other college forums I have visited.

As for the game next week...may the best team win and may the loser return the next week with pride.

Congratulations on your win over Marist.

Hopefully, there will be about 20,000 at the game. We have a few knuckle heads stuck on stupid, but most GS fans will be respectful to you.

The tailgating is awesome. If you can, come by Row 7, Space N12(In front of the water tower, will have an Eagle Crossing Sign)) and see us, have a cold one and something to eat.

There are a lot of questions about this team and coaching staff, especially with the new offense. I think our D will be fine.

Have a safe trip!

20,000!!! I seriously doubt if any Blue Devil football team played in front of that kind of crowd. Basketball yes...in the NCAA's, but not football!

Jeez...we plan to expand our field from about 3500 seats to a grand total of about 9000. Hopefully, with continued success, we may average 6,000 or so in the future.

I think the Blue Devils will be fine at GS.

Not too sure about what the score will end out to be however, from what some of the other forums and papers are saying, CCSU is not that bad of a team.

I will say one thing: I am not exactly sure if I would want to be in the crowd at GS if CCSU came off with a "W."

No need to worry about that ;-)

Wow - 20,000 is crazy! The atmosphere is unlike anything our team has ever played in. It is great for the team to get on a plane and play at at place with such a storied history. Good sign is our head coach (and Univ Pres) worked down there, so they won't be intimidated. The players have to want the spotlight and the chance to win a big game. The running game is stronger than last year and the defense looks solid, but will have to play at its best for a shot to win. CCSU is likely around a 17 point underdog, but I think they have a real good chance to make win. Go Blue Devils!

Series Notes:
Central Connecticut at Georgia Southern (SoCon) – First meeting.
Georgia Southern has won a record six I-AA Football National Championships and have made the NCAA playoffs in eight of the past 10 seasons. CCSU is 0-1 all time vs. current members of the Southern Conference, losing 62-30 to Wofford in Spartansburg, SC in 1990, at a time when both programs were Division II.

I would say 15K-20K either way a good crowd. Just be warned visitors sit on the student side and many will be highly intoxicated and will not be poster children for southern hospitality. You can check out our message board be warned a again we do have a section dedicated to smack talk but it is mainly just for fun so dont take anything real seriously.

Feel free to visit http://www.tscsports.com

There are a few threads of Paulson Stadium, we added on to it this past off season so CCSU will be the first team to be hosted in the new Paulson. With the new changes that have taken place this offseason I would not be surprised if 20,000+ show up at the game, possibly more.

I am a Statesboro (city GSU is in), GA native and there will only be a 17 point difference if the planets line up just right for y'all. Most of the predictions I have seen are around 41-10, GSU. Have a great time, we look foward to having y'all, but don't expect a miracle. We are 141 and 17 at home, we put up 28 points against the GA Bulldogs a couple years back, and we fired our last coach for going 8-4. If you drive down for a vacation, you won't be disappointed.

I have to say again...this is one of the best, most courteous and "mature" forums around. Even those who aren't CCSU fans and who visit the forum are very respectful. For the GA Southern fans, CCSU is allowing some fans to fly down with the team. I don't know how many are going but I have an early commitment Sunday morning, so I can't make it. I think we are all quite informed about college football and realize that CCSU is stepping up a level or two for this game and a CCSU victory would be a major upset. CCSU did, however, beat Colgate last year at Colgate. They lost to Delaware in the 1-AA championship game two years before. Personally, I view this upcoming game as a measuring stick to see how far the program has come and what CCSU has to do to compete at the next level.

I will say it if the others will not... Guys, Please! We are dying for some smack talk on tscsports.com Our schedule made us sit out a week and had to live vicariously through week one.

We will not disrespect your board by bringing it here, but would love to have someone come to our board and at least say something, anything, to attest to your prowess on the feild of play.

Yeah...maybe we are a little too polite. Just wait till Basketball season if you want to see some trash talk. The Blue Devils kick ass on the court and we're not ashamed to say it!

We suffered a tragic loss today. Maybe it is not a good time after all. Best of luck, and safe travels to those making the trip.
Regards.
