[> FB Coaching canidates? -- J.J., 11:15:11 01/04/06 Wed

Rumor from Lafayette board:

"Central Connecticut: Three candidates, John Loose from Lafayette, Mike Sewak (formerly of) Georgia Southern and Jeff McInerney from URI. All are scheduled to be on campus this week for interviews."
----

QUICK BIOS

John Loose (Ithaca '87) - Current Def. Coord @ Lafayette. Former DB coach at Army for 8 seasons. Also coached at Albany and Coast Guard.

Mike Sewak (Virginia) - Former Head Coach at Georgia Southern recently fired after losing in the first round of IAA playoffs the past 2 seasons. He advanced to the IAA semifinals in his first season at GSU in 2002.

Jeff McInerney (Slippery Rock '82) - Def. Coord at Rhode Island. A veteran of 24 years as an assistant coach at 13 different schools. Was asssistant at Troy State ('85 DII national champs) and Georgia Southern ('90 IAA national champs).

This morning's NB Herald had an article stating that Sewak and McInerney are the two finalists but the Search Committee in its infinite wisdom has delayed the process until after the NCAA Convention. In the last month this process has cost them several top notch assistant coaches plus 3-5 good young players who will be or are going to transfer. All of the players were left in "limbo" during semester break as no one has told them anything. Rumors are rampant. Good way to ruin a fb program that had two good years and was on the move under Masella. Seniors on the team next year will have played for 3 coaches in 4 years.......can't build long term that way.

Yes! Loose is safe! He remains at Lafayette. Maybe you guys can avenge that 51-0 1981 loss in the near future?

Pards,
Because you seem to have a selective memory, CCSU is 1-1 all time vs. the Leopards and both games were played when Central was a DII team and Lafayette was IAA.

Sept. 13, 1980 (at Easton, PA)
Central Conn. 14
Lafayette 3

Sept. 12, 1981 (at Easton, PA)
Central Conn. 0
Lafayette 51

In fact, we are 2-2 all time vs. current Patriot League members with all the games played on the road.

1-1 vs. Lafayette
0-1 vs. Lehigh (9/29/01 L, 58-10 @ Bethlehem, PA)
1-0 vs. Colgate (9/3/05 W, 24-22 @ Hamilton, NY)

Dewd, you are correct. The 1980 game was like my first week at Lafayette and I quickly learned the football team was moribund that year. It didn't score a TD for six games! Finished with 3 wins. The next year we hired Bill Russo and a lot of hope was invested in him. The first Russo game was against Central Conn. and everyone was shocked at the offensive differential vs. the previous year!
