Play in game? -- J.J., 09:46:28 03/07/05 Mon
FDU - Wagner winner most likely gets the play-in game vs. SWAC champion (which is up for grabs). Big South Champs Winthrop (RPI 73) has a win vs. Providence, and likely MEAC champ Coppin St. (126) had a sick schedule (#2 in the nation). MEAC challangers Delaware St., Hampton, and South Carolina St. also have a RPI better than Wagner and near FDU. FDU or Wagner should win the PIG, but will likely face a beating at the hands of Illinois or UNC in the first round.
FYI- Around the Northeast mid-majors:
America East: Vermont will face NU for the bid. Loser will certainly get an NIT bid.
MAAC: Niagara faces Rider for the NCAAs. Niagara would get NIT with a loss, Rider has a good shot for NIT also.
Patriot: Holy Cross vs. Bucknell in the finals. Once again, winner get NCAA, loser almost assured NIT.
Ivy: Penn clinched regular season and NCAA bid. No NIT.
I really hope the NEC improves next season, this is very bad. Although NEC peers are still 1-bid NCAA conferences, a strong schedule and good results provides the possibility for a NIT post-season bid. In the last 7 seasons the NEC has only one NIT bid (Wagner, 2002). These other conferences are killing us.

Postseason -- J.J., 11:37:40 03/14/05 Mon
NEC representative #16 FDU faces a brutal task in the first round vs. #1 Illinois. With Oakland's upset in the Mid-Con tourney, the Knights avoided the PIG, but also lost out on any hope of a win.
Around the northeast:
#2 UConn will face #15 Central Florida
#13 Vermont earned a tough game vs. #4 'Cuse
#13 Penn has a chance to upset #4 Boston College
#14 Bucknell has a date vs. #3 Kansas
#14 Niagara will face #3 Oklahoma
Also,
#7 Charlotte vs. #10 NC State
CCSU played a total of 4 NCAA bound teams this season and was 0-5 in those games.
NIT:
America East - Northeastern (@ Mehphis) and Boston Univ. (@ Georgetown)
Patriot - Holy Cross (@ Notre Dame)
CAA - Hofstra (@ St. Joes), Drexel (@Buffalo), and VCU (vs. Davidison)
MAAC, NEC, and Ivy - none!
Also,
Cal State Fullerton will play @ Oregon State.
CCSU played Holy Cross in a scrimmage and reports from the game were very positive. CS Fulleton was invited to the 2004 Mohegan Sun Classic in New Britain and finished (1-1) tied with CCSU by losing to Samford and defeating Colgate.
The AE had a very strong year, but NU leaves for the even stronger CAA begining next season.

Well FDU put up a good fight in the 1st half. Illinois was too strong, but it was a good showing for the NEC. Penn and Niagara also lose in the first round.
Both AE teams get totally crushed in the NIT, and all 3 CAA also teams lose. However, both Holy Cross and CS-Fullerton win! How is it that 2 avergage mid-majors, who "on paper" match up near even to CCSU win a post season game? I'd have to image if Central scheduled and beat a couple of tough mid-majors next year, and finished top 2 in the NEC, an NIT bid would be possible.
The goals for next season should be clear - NEC championship and a NCAA bid, but a consilation prize of a NIT win wouldn't be bad.
