Subject: Sobers Out ------ Prep School Player is in

From the Courant......
Central gets Williams

Guard John Williams, who played at Marianapolis Prep in Thompson last season, has signed a letter of intent with Central Connecticut. "He's a good, quality perimeter player, unselfish and a good defender," Central coach Howie Dickenman said. The Blue Devils had a scholarship open when sophomore forward Jemino Sobers withdrew to attend the University of New Haven. ... Notre Dame forward Dennis Latimore will forgo his final season of eligibility.

Although it is sad to see Jermino go. I just dont think that he was putting up the numbers and he was injured all the time. Was he not fitting in? I do think that Howie gave him every chance to succeed.

Sorry to see him go, seemed like a nice kid, but I'm glad it is on somewhat good terms, and he foud a place where he can be sucessfull. IMO, Southern Conn. would have also been a good choice. Yes, he never really seemed to have fully recovered from the injury (like McMillion). I also think Hickenbottem will be a real solid player in the next 3 years, so that is a plus for the team.

I would have liked to seen another forward replace Sobers instead of a guard, but this late in the process I'm sure there wasn't much available.

Its good to see Howie not get totally burned by a player exiting. At this level it is real important to keep a full roster ( at least for practice ) Is it me or is the recruiting quality going down somewhat in the last few years?
