Subject: UMass over UConn

Wow! I just caught the 2nd half of the game, as I was retuning from #1 Illini over the Hoyas, but after last night’s game I now have some more hope and some new fears regarding the UConn game.

Hope:
UMass was not as talented as UConn. They were good and have more experience playing together, but with the help of the crowd and the National TV audience they played "their game" and won. This is the same UMass team that was recently blown out by Northeastern at home and has lost to CCSU twice in the past 2 years. CCSU is coming off a very impressive road win and I think if Central can play great defense, shoot well, and keep a hostile crowd quiet, then there is hope vs. the Huskies. Next up for UConn is a good Rice team and then they have only 2 days to prepare for Central, while the Devils have about 2 weeks for prepare for UConn.

Fear:
Calhoun has to be steaming mad. With due credit to UMass and their big home court advantage in Amherst, UConn should have won this game. In what I consider a risky play, UConn pressed the final 8 seconds with a tie game and were beaten. UConn was also forced into many turnovers and they didn’t dominate the backboard. Don't expect them to play like that or make many similar mistakes in the future. We know how talented their players are and we will see how the Huskies rebound in their next game vs. Rice, but now UConn may be out to prove themselves and that should put some extra fear into the smaller in-state opponents (CCSU, QU and SHU).

UMass actually has some size on their team. Central doesnt, and is going to get rocked by about 40. We wont be able to rebound at all against Uconn. We could shoot about 65% from the field and still get beaten by double digits. We don't have 25 grand to donate to AAU teams to get high profile players (Rudy Gay) like Calhoun does.

Oh don't start this donating crap again. You sounds like Gary Williams from Maryland. If u knew about the subkect then you would have known that he is not getting players because he donates money to a team.

hey Mr. Magoo, if you can't see some connection between 25 grand being sent to a AAU team and signing a player from the same team, your blind. Just like I dont know for sure if this is why he got him, its evidence regardless. You have no evidence for saying Calhoun is clean.

He has been giving this AAU team 25 grand every season. He did not specifiacally go out and give the team 25 grand and all of a sudden Gay committed to Uconn. Uconn has gotten plenty of big recruits like Will Bynum for next years class and Villanueva last year. That shows that Uconn has used their good team reputation to get top recruits. They don't just go out and give every aau team 25 grand so they can get a top player.

Hey guys, I've 3 points here:

1) UConn has 2 National Championships, tons of media exposure, sucessful players in the NBA, and Calhoun is a Half of Fame coach - the can recruit ANYBODY! Calhoun was playing within the rules (as was Gary Williams) when they payed and played AAU teams. Now, the rules have been changed for the better. I prefer the exhibitions against DII and II teams, but lets not say UConn or Calhoun is a dirty program becasuse of past exhibition games.

2) Yes UConn has had some program and player violations over the years that are not made into a big deal by the NCAA. While smaller programs like Central are punished for sharing scholarsip money on text books for teammates. The problem is the NCAA is corrupt more then even the worse programs (Cincy, UNLV, etc.).

3) UMass is horrible and in retrospect that was probably one of the worse UConn loses under Calhoun. Inbetween their win over UConn, UMass was blown out my Northeastern and Miami. Unless the A-10 is very bad this year, I'm not sure the Minutemen even make the NIT. IMO Lappas does not return next year. UMass responded to their win with a ugly effort and a L, and so I think that if that Ugame was played in Hartford or Storrs UMass loses by 20. I think that just shows how big a home court advantage can be.
