Your right the AE doesn’t have hockey, but what I meant is I think the QU administration sees its peers as BU and NU, not SFPA and Robert Morris. While that might not be the case in reality - that is their goal. So membership in the AE is a way for them to associate with those schools to become “academic peers.” Why wouldn’t we want the same? Overall (taking more than just athletics into account), CCSU’s profile is much closer to Vermont or Stony Brook than it is to MSM or SFNY. Again, you’re right that our budget is on par with Sacred Heart, not Maine. Clearly money is the problem in and that stems from the lack of funding by the State of Conn. for the CSU system. My reasons for a conference change go beyond just looking out for MBB NCAA bids, however that discussion is way off the track here.

I’m sorry but I still can’t agree with the proposed MBB post-season reforms. Name any DI conference that will have a similar set-up next year. I know this isn’t the BE @ MSG, but not even the lowly MEAC would have a tourney like this. This needs to be an event, not a week-long playoff. The geographic center of the league is NYC area, so I can see playing there - just find a neutral court. While I don’t get to travel for many games, playing 2 games in one location provides me an incentive to show up for the tourney. What happens if CCSU’s first game is home, then at RMU, and the finals are at MSM? Do you think the CCSU fans will travel? And what does that do to the players? I agree you need more fannies in the seats, but the home court and reseeding gives too much advantage to the higher seeds, especially in the early rounds. What the Monmouth coach is trying to do is eliminate any chance for an upset. He was scared because they almost lost to Wagner in Staten Island and if the CCSU/Monmouth championship game was on a neutral court I think Central would have won and he knows that. If we can agree that the odds of any NEC team wining a NCCA tourney game is very small, then what would have been the difference if #7 CCSU makes the dance over #1 Monmouth – nothing! Chances are both teams lose in the first round.

I guess we can agree to disagree. Personally, I'd rather see 3,000 people in the stands for at least home game than seeing about 400 in the stands at Wagner. A neutral site would be a disaster, just look at attendance numbers when the tournament was in Trenton. It is not a big enough draw and the only way to put people in the seats is to have it on home courts. Unfortunately, it takes away the opportunity to watch more than one game in a day, but how many NEC fans do that? Not many.

As for the other discussion, the one thing you are forgetting is that those schools are state schools, yes, but they are also the only game in town. Maine is all alone up there. As is UVM and UNH. When you are the only game in town you get all the funding, and all the fan support and merchandise sales, etc. That isn't the case where we are. We will always play second fiddle to UConn.
