Subject: The Q got an invite to the Preseason-NIT

Can someone tell me how a team like the Q with a 5-13 record get an invite to the Preseason NIT? Shouldnt an Invitational be based on a teams past season record/performance? Who did DiSantis grease to get this done?

I think I read a while ago that commish picks the team to represent their conference in the PNIT and the NEC had picked QU before last season even began. Don't forget CCSU played in this tourney in 2001 and SFNY played last year, so both teams aren't likly to play in it soon. I don't think that is too unfair. Last year was a real disapointment for QPAC, but they did reach the NEC finals 2 seasons ago vs. us. We need a solid team to represent the NEC and I don't think QU is a bad choice (although there are better). I'd expect Monmouth, Wagner, or maybe even RMU will be the next to represent the NEC in the PNIT.

However, I do think QU got a much easier first round game (vs. Penn) this year than we did in 2001 (vs. Oklahoma) although I still don't expect QU to win. Also, Niagara is playing Providence in the PNIT on ESPN - that should be an interesting game and a good matchup to watch. I really think the CCSU/Niagara game is the best one on the schedule. It should be a good mid-major OOC matchup.
