Subject: Conference Affiliation

Rumors on other boards are that NU and UNH might leave America East for the CAA. So what will the AE do if that happens? One posters suggested that Quinn and Wagner might be asked to join. What should Central do?

I know I've mentioned a few times that I would like us to join a "higher profile" conference. As a mid-major program our options are limited, but what type of schools do you want to see Central compete against - small private schools like Robert Morris and St. Francis NY or state schools like Maine and Vermont?

I don't buy for one second that the American East is a better conference than the NEC. The NEC is no powerhouse, but neither are the Stony Brooks, Binghamtons, Albanys or Hartfords of the world. If Central is going to go through the trouble of upgrading, then they should target a truly superior conference, and that would probably require a new (or real) arena. I have no problem being in the NEC. It gives the team a great chance of playing in the NCAA Tourney every year.

If Central is going to jump to another conference I agree with prior postings that say that CCSU should 'step up' to a larger conference like the A-10.. Moving to the America East Conf would be a lateral move and would not produce the expected results.
