The steelhead are returning to the lake and they are on a feeding frenzy.
No controversy over small flies and long leaders, they are out. Real bait, eggs, minnows and worms are working best. If you like artificials go with big leeches or wooly buggers or try some of the Double Loon spinners in red-hot steelhead catching colors. Fish the tail-outs and fast whitewater pockets. I took most of our fish at the very end of medium to fast flowing pools. We fished from pineville to town and found fish evenly scattered throughout.
Don't spend a lot of time in one place. These fish don't need to be enticed. If they are there, they will bite. No bites, just move to another spot. We should have a good week to ten days of some of the best fishing of the entire season. And guess what? Everyone is gone. HA!
