2/13 - Salmon River Report
Weather looks great for the next week. Never did get the snow that was forecast. The wind did blow and would of made it
uncomfortable to fish with wind chill temp's making you think twice.

Flows in C.F.S.: 700
Water Clarity: clear
Rate: good

Fishing Report: With almost 2 weeks of higher water flows we have seen an increase in fresher Steelhead in the river top to bottom.
Fish the slow deep pools where they are resting. Or any current breaks or seams for the transitional fish.

These current breaks come in many forms.

They could be the drop at the head of a pool, where the fish are laying underneath the faster currents. Setting up before they blow the
hole and transition further up the river.

Directly underneath or below a fallen tree, log or tree stump sticking out into the current or on a corner. Combine this with a hole or
overhanging tree and that's a definite Chrome holder.

Big boulders or rocks on the bottom combined with faster currents around them are also prime spots to fish.

A current break could be as little as a 4-8 inch drop in the river bottom to create a resting position for fish on the move.

Tails of holes (big or small), deepest part of any hole will always hold them at this time of the year. Pocket water or seams on the inside
of a corner, seams running into a pool are other area's to work.

My good friend Ed Martin http://www.ExpertGuideService.com taught me to look for the "hole within the hole". Anyone can
recognize a pool, but to have an intimate understanding of the bottom contour and know where the deepest part is, can sometimes
make the difference. Finding the "hole within the hole" will give you just one of the many keys to help unlock the secrets to steelhead
fishing. Thanks! Ed

Starting to see spawning Steelhead. This means that ANY deep water adjacent to a gravel flat will be holding Steelhead and would
be another one of many optional places to wet your line..

Good Luck!
Randy

Hatches : Black stones, caddis, single egg and egg cluster patterns.
Baits: Worms, blue, pink, chartreuse egg sacks
