The secret to success today was to cover alot of water and find some that was not CHOCOLATE MILK and MUDDY. North and South Sandy were simply huge water wise and probably won't recede until about may. If you could find water that was blue-green in color chances were that it contained decent numbers of biting trout. Chartreuse Bags were again the hot ticket and at our first stop we were zero for six being spanked severely in the very high water. Six Pound test was no match for the rampaging metalheads who were all jacked up on supercharged highly oxygenated water with a splash of mud, grass, and leaves thrown in for good measure. We converted a two piece 10 and 1/2 foot LAMIGLAS Noodle rod into a three piecer and learned NOT to grab the rod in the middle for more leverage on a runaway freight train trout. OOPS!!! Second Stop we learned not to throw into the alders below the beaverdam as trout don't live suspended in the bushes. Third stop we learned the benifit of fishing golfball sized eggbags with no weight in snaggy bottom streams and solved the snag problems. First success was sweet with a Bullet chrome 32 1/2" inch 13lb Sow who jumped out on the bank after being hooked. She was very active in 44 degree water. Yes, WARM, spring creek water!!! Guess where???? No Puckered BUTTS, Err, Brush here. warm water right outta da ground, baby!! Lost two others here before moving on. One for two at the next spot with only 38 degree H20 here. The landed fish was a two pound skippy the wonder Trout. Last Stop was Steelhead Valhalla with six gravel groovers in sight on their way to higher elevations by doing serious Aerial Acrobatics to clear large rock ledges. Five Bites on hot pink bags produced four trout in the rather clear water, a miracle!!!(the clear water). Two skippys and a seven pound Domestic Rainbow and an eleven pound Chrome sow steelhead. Today's Totals: Six for Sixteen. Very warm today mostly and rain in the afternoon. So...... more water is on the way. Water and trout will be everywhere. Good fishing. Walleyed Out.
