Subject: Salcha Floods

I lived in Salcha for 13 years and moved to the lower 48 in 2002, I lived on Harding Drive then moved to a cabin on the lake in 94. The following is only MY opinion:

The Borough does not give one damm about your flood problems, they DON'T have the manpower, equipment or expertise to even begin to address the problem. Salcha flooding is a simple "political play" that goes like this: When water comes up and people start crying...send the emergency dude out to look at the water, act concerned then call a meeting, make promises, blame the feds the state and DOT for inactiaction, wait for the water to recede AND when it does go back to Fairbanks and forget about the whole mess.

The Borough has NO problem taking your property tax dollars and with a straight face tell you the dumsters and the monthly library truck is a service...if you want more drive 100 miles round trip to use a pool or go to an assembly meeting to complain...its pure fertlizer folks!

The ONLY thing that will attract political or state attention in Salcha is Harding Lake...its the playspot for the rich and privledged of Fairbanks and believe me...one LAKESTER calling because flooding prevrents him from getting to the lake is more powerful than YOUR cabin floating down the Rich! While you folks are chasing the tails of promises made by state and local bueacrats the lake association is working through Ted Stevens and has money for water diversion to cure the low water levels at the lake! While lake levels are important for recreation and fish...I think, saving people's homes and maintaining the intergy of THE MAIN ROAD OUT OF ALASKA should take priority.

Just my thoughts...have a good Fall Season, Charlie
