"I remember a ferret named Slang. He was me best matey, the first beast we hired for our crew. One night, Sealfolk attacked our ship, saying that we killed one of their tribe members. I don't recall much of it. Anyway, the patriarch killed Slang in front of us all, and I just stood there and did nothing. I saw me matey reaching out to me, calling my name, weeping with fear, and all I did was stand and watch. If I had done something, maybe he'd still be alive..."
