Just found this site and it is teriffic. Hubby and I have decided to buy and live on a narrowboat, we have just found a buyer for our house. We have had narrowboat holidays and are both up for the change in lifestyle, and really excited by it. We pretty much know the style and fit-out we want on our narrowboat, and the funds we have available. It will be 5 - 10 years old and we will make the changes as necessary. We intend to cruise most of the time. We have a couple of questions that someone may be able to help us with. Firstly, we have been looking at brokers because of the security of purchase, we could not afford to lose our money on a stolen narrowboat. If we bought privatly from someone advertising on the canals ot internet, how do we know the narrowboat is owned by the seller. The second question is about marinas. While we intend to cruise most of the time we do want a marina for secure mooring and parking of our car. We enjoy spending time with family and traveling abroad etc. Can you moor up in the marina for say a month (as an example) while living on the narrowboat, or are there limits on how long you stay at the marina. Does the marina shut for certain times during the year, if so, when, and does this mean we cannot get access to our narrowboat. We do not want a permanent mooring. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
