Subject: Pangako sa 'Yo and Mula sa Puso ... Hit na sa Malaysia and Southeast Asia!

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. expects at least one million dollars in revenue from every television soap opera (telenovelas) it will sell to overseas markets including Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Kenya.

In an interview Wednesday, ABS-CBN director for distribution Reena Garingan said other countries, even those outside Asia, were ready markets for the high-budget telenovelas that the network had been doing in the past few years.

Primetime soaps including "Pangako sa 'yo," (My Vow to You) "Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay," (How I've Waited for You) "Bituin" (Star) and real life-based drama anthology "Maalaala Mo Kaya" (Do You Remember When?) have the biggest potential in the international market at this point, she said.

Garingan said ABS-CBN was positioning itself as a foreign program provider that could provide not only telenovelas but also movies and television programs.

Top-rating "Pangako sa 'yo" is already running in two Malaysian television stations and will also be seen in Kenya in October.

Garingan said that ABS-CBN was now "very close" to signing deals with some Malaysian, Indonesian and Vietnamese television firms for "Kay Tagal Kitang Hinintay" and the "Bituin" which stars noted Filipino actress Nora Aunor.

There was also an attempt to sell telenovelas to Latin American television stations, but Garingan said these markets were not ready yet.

ABS-CBN is also selling licenses for Star Cinema-produced films as well as other movies.

Garingan said ABS-CBN was currently distributing films like "Tanging Yaman (Real Wealth)," "Bata Bata Paano Ka Ginawa?" (Child, Child, How Were You Made) and "Anak" (Son) to countries in Eastern Europe.

European countries that get ABS-CBN's films include the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Sweden.

ABS-CBN also gets a big revenue boost from its satellite arm Global Limited that handles The Filipino Channel (TFC).

The cable channel last year posted around two billion pesos in subscription earnings.
