Chapter 117

“Daddy! Daddy! You came back!” Adam squealed with delight as he threw himself in between the happy couple.

“Of course I did Adam.” Michael said quietly. He frowned then, seeing the look of discomfort on Nikita’s face.

“Are you alright, Kita?” he asked with some concern, brushing his knuckles gently across her face.

“I think so.” Nikita said quietly.

“Adam,” Michael began, “Please sit here next to me. Nikita and I have to tell you something.”

“Michael.” Nikita interrupted.

“No Kita,” Michael said seriously. “He needs to know. No one is going to do this to you. Not even Adam.”

“He’s just a child, Michael.” Nikita pleaded. “Remember that.”

“I will.” Michael promised.

“What’s wrong, Daddy?” Adam asked innocently.

“Adam, from now on I don’t want you to run or bang into Nikita anymore. You’re going to hurt her if you’re not more careful.” Michael began gently.

“I didn’t mean to hurt her, Daddy.” Adam said contritely as tears welled up in his green eyes. “I’m sorry.”

“I know you are Adam, and I know you like Nikita.” Michael replied. “Nikita and I want to tell you something very important.”

“What Daddy?” Adam asked softly as his eyes locked with his parent’s.

“Before we tell you our secret Adam, we both want you to know that we love you very much.” Nikita said, breaking into the conversation very quietly. “That will never change. Do you understand?”

Adam nodded.

“That’s right, Adam.” Michael stressed as he realized what truth Nikita thought he should share with Adam first. He quickly changed his mind about what he wanted to say to his son.

“Do you remember the nice lady who brought you here?”

“Yes Daddy.” Adam replied.

“Do you remember that Nikita said that lady is my lawyer and it was her job to help us?” Michael asked.

Adam nodded seriously.

“Well, she did help us.” Michael continued as he watched his child’s eyes closely.

“How?” Adam queried.

“Do you remember the other day when you wanted Nikita to be your Mommy?” Michael asked quietly

Adam’s eyes were wide as he listened intently.

“My lawyer, Madeleine, fixed things so that Nikita will be your Mommy from now on…. for always.” Michael said quietly. “Is that okay with you?”

Adam nodded and his little face lit up in a cherubic grin. “Can I call you Mommy now Nikita?”

“I’d like that, sweetie.” Nikita said quietly.

“Adam?” Michael probed after a few minutes of silently cuddling his son. “Are you happy?”

“Yes Daddy.” Adam sighed as he cuddled up even closer to his Daddy.

“Good.” Michael said quietly as he reached for one of Nikita’s hands and squeezed it gently, “because we have something else to tell you.”

“What Daddy?” Adam said in surprise.

“You’re going to be a big brother Adam.” Michael said in a whisper. “Nikita and I are having a baby.”

“A baby?” Adam whispered in awe.

“Yes.” Michael replied. “Isn’t that wonderful?”

“Where is the baby?” Adam asked innocently as he nodded his head and stared at his Daddy in wonder.

“The baby is in Nikita’s tummy Adam.” Michael said softly. “That’s why you have to be careful and not bang into her anymore. You don’t want to hurt your brother or sister, do you?”

“Why is the baby in Nikita’s tummy?” Adam asked innocently as he shook his little head no.

Michael smiled as he continued. “The baby is there because it’s not ready to be born yet.”

When will it be ready?” Adam asked again. “I want it to be here with us now.”

“It will take time, Adam.” Michael said as his grin grew. He was so relieved that Adam wasn’t upset at their news. “You’re going to have to be patient and wait…. just like us.”

“Can I talk to the baby?”

Nikita smiled and Michael chuckled.

“Sure you can.” Michael replied. “Stand over here and watch, mon fils, and I’ll show you how.”

“Michael!” Nikita giggled as her husband waited until Adam was standing up before he bent down to her stomach.

Gently he patted her covered stomach and then spoke.

“Coucou bébé! Je suis ton Papa et Adam est ton frère. Je t’aime mon petit. Now you.” Michael commanded with a grin. “Come on Adam, say hello to the baby.”

Adam giggled and then put his head gently on Nikita’s stomach and said, “Hello baby. Daddy and I love you. Nikita’s going to be your real Mommy but she said she’d be my Mommy too. You’re going to love her…. she’s a nice Mommy.”

“Michael?” Nikita said softly as she wiped her tears with the back of her hand.

“Yes, my love?” Michael whispered as he cradled her lovingly.

“Would you order room service for us, please? I need to get a tissue.” she said as she pushed out of his arms and fled the room in tears.

“Why is Nikita crying?” a puzzled Adam inquired.

“Your Mommy is crying because she’s happy Adam.” Michael said with a grin. “Come on, let’s order room service.”

“But she’s crying Daddy!” Adam protested.

“It’s okay, mon fils.” Michael replied with a grin. “Pregnant ladies cry a lot. We men are going to have to get used to it, okay?”
