Chapter 149

“Your boss doesn’t tell you everything Mentz.” Chris said softly as he glowered at the captive he was pinning to the wall with one strong hand.

Simultaneously he reached for a discarded kitchen towel to wipe his face clean. Tossing the same towel into a nearby trashcan, he continued glaring at Mentz.

“Why are you supporting this stupidity? Money? If that’s all he used to convince you, then you’re a fool. You’re the one that’s going to suffer for this nonsense, when you needn’t have.”

“What do you mean?” Carlos interjected.

“Jurgen lied to you, you idiot! He sold his hockey team to our boss and then later he decided he didn’t get enough money out of the deal.” Chris stated.

“So?” Mentz replied. “What has that got to do with any of us?”

“He lied to you, you moron.” Chris continued. “This isn’t about a business deal of any kind! The man is a monster. He had an affair with our boss’ former wife just to hurt him… and now he wants to rape his new wife… just to hurt him some more.”

“I don’t believe you.” Mentz choked out, uncomfortably aware now of the iron grip Chris now had on his throat.

“It doesn’t matter.” Chris spat out. “Believe this… the lady is pregnant and he knows it. What does that tell you about your boss, Mentz? The man’s sick… and what you three morons were trying to do to ‘help him’ is sicker still.”

“I don’t believe you.” Mentz maintained stubbornly.

“Fine, don’t. The facts remain, just the same Mentz.” Chris stated firmly. “You were still going to kidnap the lady, you’ve just admitted it. You three are coming with us.”

“You don’t have any authority outside of this building.” A savvy Mentz shot back. “You’re going to have to let all three of us go.”

“Well, that’s not quite true.” Chris said with a grin. “You were right when you said I have no authority. However, the cops who have been listening to this conversation do have authority… and conspiracy to kidnap is a crime. Let’s go.”

At the mention of cops, a frantic Jose began struggling within Roy’s grip even more than he had before.

“He lied to us.” Jose screamed. “He told Carlos and I that this was a business deal and we’d get paid well, but no one would be hurt.”

“Yeah” Carlos replied. “We had no idea the lady was pregnant either.”

“Since when is a kidnapping part of a legitimate business deal, you idiots?” Roy hissed as he shook his prisoner and shoved him out of the kitchen.

“Don’t mon ami.” Denis cautioned in French as he watched his enraged friend become even more furious than he’d seemed earlier. “We’re not cops, remember? We don’t want this fool to counter-charge us with assault later. Let’s just get him and his pals to the cops and wash our hands of their filth.”

“You’re right Denis.” Roy responded, after taking a deep breath to help him calm down. It enraged him that these simpletons thought that grapping the blonde whose photograph he’d seen earlier was a part of a ‘business arrangement.’ He might be a lady’s man, but he had always respected decent women… especially pregnant ones. “At least Madame Samuelle will never know these jokers were here. We’ve done our jobs.”

By the blank looks on the two Hispanic men’s faces, Roy was sure that neither man understood their discussion, and he nodded in satisfaction as they were able to lead their now meek prisoners outside to the waiting paddy wagon.

Chris nodded in approval as well. He’d see that a full report was filed and he knew that both men could expect to see a nice bonus with their cheques. Michel would be sure it happened.
